Overview

As part of our expanding Digital Inclusion service, you would be working with the team to find the best remote support tech tool (App) to use in training for people who need help from their own homes. Our clients include vulnerable people, so the safety and security of the tool is very important. The App will need to work with all standard desktop and mobile platforms, (Windows, macOS, Android and iOS.) It must be easy to use, with secure access by a pool of approved individuals, and allow for random monitoring to protect clients from fraud. You will personally manage the installation, team training and the trial of the App with a small number of Age UKWD digital clients to identify issues and improve application.

These are the main tasks involved:

  • Lead and consolidate the development of the group and its Digital Inclusion strategy. Involve, influence, and enthuse partners and other stakeholders in the promotion of digital inclusion for all.
  • Connect with public, private and VCSE organisations to identify opportunities for working together to help excluded individuals find and use available resources/support.
  • Provide visible leadership and represent the group on relevant boards, forums and workstream groups. Represent the VCSE sector on the West Yorkshire Digital Board, ensuring these organisations are included in digital offers and developments.
  • Actively contribute to digital inclusion agendas to reduce exclusion, deprivation and inequality, by co-ordinating digital resources and support within communities.
  • Shape and manage the group’s Grant Fund, from the application process through to evaluating the results of an award.
  • Review, risk assess and quality check all group activities, providing updates and recording decisions made.
  • Project manage the Digital Inclusion initiatives the Group undertakes, coordinating staff, volunteers, resources, administration, and reporting. Promote and coordinate regional initiatives within the district.
  • Link into national schemes and forums to gather and share learning and guidance on the delivery of successful digital initiatives.
  • Work with all the Age UK Wakefield District teams to profile the work we do, reporting in to the Trustee Board as required.
  • With line manager, agree a strategy for the continued delivery of the group beyond the initial 12 months.
  • Report any immediate concerns to the Line Manager.

Job Requirements:

We think you will need these when you join us, but some elements can be developed through the project.

  • Plan and agree the way you will approach the project, what you will need in support and how you will keep everyone up to date on your progress.
  • Carry out desk research to draw up a shortlist of options with pro and cons
  • Agree a selection process to take in wider viewpoints (e.g. potential users, help desk staff in partner organisations) and record results against criteria you have agreed.
  • Undertake any training required to operate the system at expert level so you can create instructions for future operators.
  • Manage installation to Charity IT system, working with the Charity IT team and line manager.
  • Create and maintain a Risk Log noting any weaknesses that may affect the functioning and or security of the application in use and the solutions you found.
  • Trial the App with line manager and ‘signed up’ trial clients, developing a ‘lessons learned’ log. You will need to be patient and kind when supporting clients remotely, understanding their fears of technology and lack of confidence in using devices.
  • Provide telephone-support and online demonstration of the app to members of the Digital District Group.
  • Work with all the Age UK Wakefield District teams to profile the work we do.
  • Make sure your activities are compliant with the Charity’s policies, standards and procedures, and observe relevant IT and GDPR legislation.

Job Benefits

In addition to working with a group of passionate, generous and talented people, we can offer the following benefits:

  • Opportunities for career development within the Charity – Digital Inclusion is a new and developing area for the Charity.
  • Opportunities for career expansion through liaison with IT departments in partner organisations.
  • Flexible working arrangements, around the project delivery and Charity policies.

  • Company Sick Pay from day one of absence.
  • A pension plan is available to all employees.
  • As a Mindful Employer we take the well-being of our team members seriously.
