As Design Engineer you will be responsible for the Design of Westgate’s bespoke partitions, following a Final Survey on site. Review any operational requirements with our client before undertaking a dimensional survey and a review of the installation area. Draw up the bespoke solution, producing a full set of installation and fabrication drawings, the RAMS and a components list.
Communicate professionally with our clients, ensuring that all details of the project are captured, including any elements that may impact the installation. Highlight any technical requirements for further assessment, such as wind loadings or structural considerations, or any opportunities for upsells or value engineering.
The role will require the individual to travel to varied sites throughout the UK, with potential opportunities for survey visits overseas.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Meet the key contact onsite. Qualify the project detail and capture all required elements, including any variations.
Dimensional Survey of the building local to the work area, including any existing equipment.
Produce a suite of Designs to enable client approval, fabrication and subsequent installation.
Find solutions to non-standard requirements, working in multidisciplinary teams to do so.
Seek to improve the original proposals, to value engineer the installation whilst not compromising on quality.
Work with the Structural Engineer to ensure that all wind load and structural calculations are completed, documented and taken into account in the final solution.
Support our Project Management and Site Teams with any questions regarding the installation method and assist with updating designs as required.
Collaborate with the Product Management team where needed, to provide practical and technical support towards delivering effective new or improved solutions.
Work to an agreed schedule.
Provide professional advice and guidance to the sales team towards new opportunities.
Collaborate with the other Design Engineers and the Design Team Leader to ensure a consistent approach is maintained across all documentation.
Support Design standardisation and continuous improvement activities.
Skills:
Proficient in 2D drawings, using AutoCAD.

A Commercial mindset – Seek opportunities to increase income and to save costs, without compromising quality.
Experience & Qualifications:
Experience of Design and Surveying within the Fit Out, Construction or Industrial settings.
Competent in producing Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
Full driving license.
SMSTS and/or a CSCS card would be beneficial, although not essential.
Understanding of CDM regulations preferred, although not essential.
