Laboratory Manager

Our client in Redhill is looking for a Laboratory Manager with a good background in chemistry, preferably analytical chemistry to efficiently plan, execute and manage day to day laboratory operations.

You must be willing to be hands-on as the laboratory team isn’t big enough to have a wholly office-based manager; the manager also works at the laboratory bench every day.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in a regulatory environment and looking to make the role of Laboratory Manager then next step-up in career progression.

Key Resposibilities

* Organisation and completion of routine chemical and physical testing including prioritisation, allocation, delegation and supervision of routine testing work conducted by Lab Analyst(s).
* Conduct regular appraisals of Laboratory Analyst(s)
* Creation, approval and authorisation of confidential test reports.
* Maintain appropriate and effective communication with customers for work being carried out to ensure their needs are met.
* To participate in company Health & Safety committee meetings
* Maintain COSHH assessments for chemicals used in the laboratory areas. Advise on COSHH assessments for chemicals used in other business areas.
* Maintain effective relationships with service providers of the laboratory; organise service agreements and visits as necessary to ensure all equipment is fit for purpose.
* Participate in relevant UKand European Standards Committees and circulate relevant information to departments as appropriate
* Main point of contact for UKAS Assessment Manager and Technical Assessors
* Organise an annual Internal Audit programme to effectively audit all areas of the laboratory; conduct audits and implement corrective and preventative actions as appropriate.
