Speech and Language Assistant

Job Purpose:
The purpose of this post is to support and assist in providing a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy service for the students attending Acorn Park, with a primary focus on supporting students within our residential provision. The post holder will work alongside the Speech and Language Therapist supporting their work with students in groups and individual direct treatment sessions. The post holder will be expected to work under direction and guidance from qualified Speech and Language Therapists but without daily supervision. There will be close working relationships with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Key tasks will be:
* Work with the Speech and Language Therapist to assist with the assessment and treatment of children and young people with autism who present with diverse learning, developmental and communication needs
* Assist the Speech and Language Therapist to develop and implement specialist programmes of care and treatment to meet the needs of the students supporting the waking day curriculum
* Assist the Speech and Language Therapist in the development, implementation, maintenance and promotion of a communication enabling environment, primarily within the residential setting
* To provide administrative and clerical support to the team as requested
* Working collaboratively with existing staff teams across the school – including Support for Learning, Education, Residential, Administration and Home
