F1rst Commercial Recruitment

Salary: £36,000 – £42,000 per year

If you have solid Finance/Accounts/Bookkeeping experience supporting a small business (ideally within importing or dealing with stock) and are looking for a role that you can feel secure and steady in for a long time, then this Finance/Accounts Manager job may well be of interest.

This is a rare opportunity to work with an importer that is happy to take on new ideas, new ways of working and give you the freedom to make this role you own.

The need is for an experienced and hands on finance/accounts person to ensure a robust alignment of their back office function with their front end service delivery.

The role has come about due to the current person wanting to reduce their commute with a role closer to home and is leaving on very good terms. So, there could potentially be a solid handover of the reigns dependant on timeframes too.

The thing to bear in mind is that this is a small company of a dozen or so staff that supplies to some very larger retailers. As a smaller business, the part that you play within finance tends to be bigger than just finance so your flexibility is just as vital as your experience.

However, you are not on your own. There is a team of two support staff to manage, who help with Sales Ledger/Purchase Ledger and some other aspects of accounts, but predominantly it would be the Finance Managers responsibility to ensure all business finances are in order along with producing management accounts up to trail balance for the MD and external accountants each month.

The company has pivoted during the pandemic to more online and direct retail work as well as wholesale and has come out the other side stronger and more focussed. Their imports are mainly from the Far East so your knowledge or capability to quickly pick up dealing with foreign currencies and suppliers in order to ensure goods are expedited quickly would be highly advantageous.

This role is both diverse and involved and really needs a capable pair of hands to support the various accounting functions which also include foreign currencies and factoring. If you have experience in these two areas that would be very useful.

With all this in mind, it’s really important that this type of role is familiar ground to you and you are able to understand the intricacies of supporting accounts in a stock/importing environment and with the day to day Finance and Administrative work that goes with it.

The finance manager would be responsible for ensuring systems and procedures are in place and timely processing of accounts is undertaken with the main duties to also include:

* Management accounts for two companies

* Duty/VAT immediate payment invoices and HMRC FAS payments

* Container duty/freight spreadsheet (also used to collate WEEE weight data for quarterly submission)

* Management reporting and analysis

* Direct containers FOB customers/sales invoices

* Foreign supplier payments – on a/c / balance payments / deposit payments

* EC sales lists

* Intrastat returns

* Quarterly VAT returns for two companies

* PAYE/NI for weekly/monthly payroll collation (outsourced)

* Inter-company transactions

* Bank reconciliations

* Customer margin analysis

* Process expenses and credit cards

We are looking for:

* Experience of accounts/bookkeeping/finance within a small business is essential

* Import knowledge/experience

* Ability to use sage accounting software

* Organised and able to work to deadlines

* Good communication skills (phone, email, face to face)

* Happy to undertake a variety of tasks as typically needed in a small business as well as general office admin work

* Experience of working with foreign currencies would be advantageous

* Knowledge of factoring would also be advantageous

* Comfortable using Microsoft Office, spreadsheets in particular

* Self-motivated with energy, initiative and a flexible approach

* Someone who is happy to grow within the role but doesn’t need to climb the ladder

In return you can expect:

* Salary: £36,000 – £42,000(dependent on experience)

* Hours: 8.15-4.45 Monday to Thursday, 7.45-12.45 Friday (37 hrs)

* Holidays: 20 days + Bank Holidays

* Free parking

* Staff discount
