The Company and the Role:
Wessex Cancer Trust is a medium-sized charity which offers support to people affected by cancer, their families and friends. The charity operates in Hampshire, IOW, Dorset and Wiltshire and runs 4 drop-in support centres and a range of outreach projects in hospitals and in the community. The charity is driven to evolve and grow in response to the needs of their service users. The challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic have proved how well they can achieve this.
Their new CEO joined in July 2020 and as they head towards their 40th birthday this year they are now planning how to use the knowledge and experience they have gained during COVID, to reach more people in more ways.
The Trust relies on voluntary income to fund its work, raising money through fundraising activities and via a trading subsidiary of charity shops. In 2019 it had a combined turnover of £1.9m.
The successful candidate will be part of a small and motivated team of around 14 people based at their Head Office, and a wider workforce of 50 – 60 people.
They are now seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Office Administrator. The position is 22.5 hours per week, working flexibly.
Having strong and robust administration is critical to the Charity’s success and their small admin team is responsible for ensuring all areas of the organisation are able to run smoothly and efficiently. This role supports the Office Manager and is very varied: from greeting visitors and supporting colleagues with meetings, to answering phones, processing donations and ordering office supplies.
Key Features of the Role:
Based on their front desk reception, this role will be vital in creating a positive first impression for clients and supporters visiting the Chandler’s Ford location.
* Ensure visitors feel welcomed and direct or help as required.
* Answer the phone, forward calls, deal with queries.
* Open post and distribute.
* Check WCT email box and respond.
* Ensure office environment is clean and tidy and the start of each day.
* Ordering of stationery and office supplies.
* Supporting the Office Manager with Office 365 administrative tasks.
* Researching suppliers and booking tradesmen or courses.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
The Charity is looking for someone who has bags of initiative and is not easily fazed, who is warm, enthusiastic and has a can-do attitude.
* Ideally you will be an accomplished Administrator ideally with experience of working
in a supporter or customer care focused environment including experience of face to
face contact with customers/supporters.
* A warm welcoming manner, excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to deal with people at all levels and in all walks of life, on the telephone and by letter/email.
* Ability to work alone and as part of a small team.
* Excellent computer skills: confident using Microsoft Office 365, email, internet etc, confident with Word and Excel
* Able to manage time effectively, able to prioritise, adaptable and practical
