Salary: £44,400 – £48,000 per year

Red chilli recruitment are looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer for their busy manufacturing client based in Southampton
Reporting directly to the Operations Director this varied and challenging role involves a mixture of new product introduction, engineering and process change management, production issue resolution, continuous improvement and supplier process improvements activities. Our Client is a growing business within the generator, engine and renewable energy sector and as such this crucial role will get to lead and define the future direction of Manufacturing & Process improvement.
This would suit a Production or Manufacturing Engineer with a mechanical background who is looking for more responsibility with a view to progress to leadership

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Manufacturing engineering process responsibilities
a) Production process ownership and governance and collaboration with engineering
b) Development and maintenance of product build/repair procedures and safe working practices
c) Training of production operatives and technicians in product build/repair procedures
d) Introduction of “lean manufacturing” methodologies and factory “cost out” initiatives
e) Process issue resolution to maintain production output
f) Identifying process improvements and prioritising with engineering and operations there implementation
g) Management of engineering & process change including:
i) Responsibility for Bill of Materials and process definition within ERP system
ii) Documentation up-dates
iii) Task management to ensure smooth cut over of changes
iv) Management of communications with key stakeholders to understand change requirements
v) Support/lead improvements in the change control processes
2) Manufacturing engineering project responsibilities
a) Generating and managing project plans for activities related to production process implementation
b) Acts as project interface to production and procurement teams as well as external supply chain
c) Ensure that production and supply chain requirements are considered throughout product & process design
d) “Design for Manufacture” requirements have been considered within product design
e) Proposal for Make/Buy decisions
f) Development, validation (PFMEA) and introduction of new production processes
g) Budgeting, specification and Installation of new equipment
h) Process layout, timings, capacity and materials management
i) Designing quality into the process and ensuring error-proofing implemented wherever possible
j) Providing technical support and training to production and suppliers
k) Drafting and release of manufacturing documentation
l) Support of production ramp-up and resolution of operational issues
m) Co-ordination of prototype, pilot and pre-production builds
n) Coordination of engineering and suppliers activities
o) Management of supplier process capability and quality
p) Project/product cost management
q) Meeting project task and milestone deadlines
r) Act as a project/engineering/production support for other business activities as required.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Excellent Communication skills – ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
Excellent team worker. Ability to influence and motivate is key to being successful in this role.
MUST be HND / Degree qualified or equivalent in relevant engineering or technical discipline with experience across mechanical and electrical manufacturing processes.
Experience of lean manufacturing, production process documentation control, design for manufacturing, engineering change management, MRP systems and Bill of Material management are all requirements of this role.
Must have a keen interest and keep up to date with lean manufacturing ie-read manuals, books, journals, current information to keep up to date with processes etc
Experience in project management, business case justifications, training others, working with suppliers and quality systems are all a distinct advantage.

This is a permanent role offering stability and an excellent benefits package including a very generous 27days holidays (+ bhols) and a salary of £44,400 – £48,000
