Senior Mechanical Engineer – Water

Salary: £46,800 – £48,000 per year

Arup are currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer in a lead role who requires minimal supervision and is considered a technical specialist, having in-depth knowledge of engineering processes and technical aspects related to the water industry

On behalf of Arup, we are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in the water industry to cover an initial 6 month contract. This position is aligned to the Solihull office but will primarily be based working from home.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a lead role who requires minimal supervision and is considered a technical specialist, having in-depth knowledge of engineering processes and technical aspects related to the water industry

Key Responsibilities

Deliver mechanical engineering designs related to clean water and waste water infrastructure and non-infrastructure applications
Define basis of design criteria and oversee the collection and management of the required data for engineering work
Undertake research and make recommendations on innovative solutions, appropriate equipment and/or materials selection
Undertake site visits and produce technical asset condition evaluations of existing mechanical plant
Development of financial calculations for economic (TOTEX) assessment of options
Liaise and coordinate design activities with internal and external design teams
Work within project programme and financial constraints
Undertake client facing roles in the development, design and coordination of engineering solutions
Identify and meet client expectations by complying with the requirements set out in the clients standards
Apply industry standards and best practice in the absence of specific client standards
Technical leadership of mechanical design team and providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team
Provide business development support for bids for new opportunities including fee proposals
Minimum Requirements

Experience working as a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a top consultancy or water company
Degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering
Chartered Engineer with IMechE or equivalent demonstrable experience
Significant experience of clean water and wastewater design experience, from optioneering to detailed design level, in equipment specification, pumped and gravity hydraulic design, plant layout, working knowledge of other discipline needs, preparation of plant and equipment layouts
Working knowledge of WIMES and relevant industry standards
Experience of CDM, and other relevant codes and practices
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programmes, particularly Excel and Word
A good understanding of industry software design packages including Revit, Autodesk and MicroStation
