The Technical Manager is always a pivotal role and in the food industry, challenging. Why? Because without a strong individual in the Technical Manager role who embeds robust processes and the right food safety checks, the entire operation is exposed. Being central to the whole factory team, the Technical Manager needs to have strong relationships with production and supply chain and be able to challenge and stand their ground in a balanced, confident and clear way. This site has grown and developed their product range and customers and harnessed a great culture.
So, is this a great next step for you?
- Early in your career in a Technical Manager or Senior Quality Manager role.
- You have a detail understanding of BRC compliance and how that should be implemented in factory life. You always live and breathe it and ensure your team embed the required practices.
- You understand the demands around manufacturing for the major UK retailers, the food and quality standards required and how a team must work together to meet all of the above.
- In previous roles, preparing for audits and understanding the detail and rigor required and making those audit requirements everyday life in the factory.
- You enjoy a demanding role where time is critical, surprises are avoided, and you like to be into the detail knowing exactly where the technical agenda is up to.
What will a typical day look like?
- A big presence on the factory floor, in with the team where the action is, reacting to issues that always arise in food manufacturing.
- With the first point in mind, there needs to be the focus on the long term and planning for the future. Proactive planning and avoiding repetitive issues are critical for any technical function.
- Being an effective communicator across all functions. A well-known figure in the business contributing to the SMT agenda and a contact for everyone in the factory.
- The credibility gained through your knowledge, energy and passion for the job will ensure that you knit the team and other department teams to be a key respected Technical expert for the business.
- You will always have an eye for improvements, can see where tweaks can make the difference by standing back and taking the broader view.
- Working closely with the customer as the face of the business for all technical matters.
- There is a wider technical team to learn from, engage with and seek support from so you are not on your own in those vital first few weeks.
