Senior Scala Developer (Choice of Location) – Gds – Government Digital

Senior Scala Developer with extensive experience of working with Scala on web solutions is required to join our existing team of Developers for this governmental organisation to assist in their new agile Scrum projects. The successful applicant will be working in a team (sometimes pair programming) tasked with building web and mobile products for both internal and external users by implementing web APIs. Additionally applicants will be required to build a test suite to support a Continuous Deployment environment and occasionally take part in 2nd line support of applications and platforms, which will include occasional support outside of office hours.

Candidates MUST be able to demonstrate they have most of the following experience to qualify:

Experience of building server side web and mobile solutions in Scala and working with functional languages. Good knowledge of front-end web development (HTML/CSS/JS). Experience of working in a pair programming team environment. Good knowledge of agile, particularly Scrum. An ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience. Working knowledge of Linux and/or Mac OS X. Knowledge of the use of version control systems such as subversion or git. Knowledge of relational and non-relational database systems. Systems administration and configuration management skills. Experience of presenting work at user groups and conferences. Experience of building and scaling high-traffic websites. Understanding of the use of Responsive Web Design. Experience of working with JavaScript libraries to produce data visualisations. Experience of designing and maintaining public HTTP APIs. Experience of handling large data sets and scaling their handling and storage.
