A ‘proper’ Programmer

Long established group of distribution companies based in Lancashire are looking for a ‘proper’ programmer to join their business team.

This is a highly unique role and will be split between two sites working closely with the business on bespoke software projects to replace old processes or develop new applications.

When I say a proper developer – we need someone who can sit with the users and understand the requirements, then knock up a spec, and developer a solution. You’ll work alongside a team of other developers and IT staff, but this role will offer strong autonomy for the right person.

Skills-wise they are on the Microsoft stack with some older legacy systems that are being phased out (and you won’t need to worry about). Whilst there’s a move towards agile and C#/.NET across the group – in the first instance the priority is a good programming head on your shoulders and an ability to complete projects. If you’ve got a strong bent towards SQL Server that can’t hurt. If you’ve come from the VB route that wouldn’t be a problem as long as you’re prepared to learn in the role.

There’s a fair amount of winforms and some web work involved and you’ll need a driving licence or to be well served by public transport.
