Salary: £48,000 – £54,000 per year
A well-established company operating in a niche market, currently have an opportunity for a PURCHASING MANAGER to join their growing organisation based in Normanton, West Yorkshire
Working hours: Monday to Thursday 8:00 – 17:00 Friday 08:00 – 13:00 (occasional overtime may be required).
Reporting to: Operations Director
General Description:
Responsible for all purchasing and stock control activities within the business.
Job Functions:
* Responsible for all purchasing activities.
* Responsible for department members in order to ensure effective operation of the department.
* Identification of training needs within the department.
* Ensure that the company MRP system is operated effectively and that its outputs are verified and acted upon.
* Ensure that the department operates in accordance with the company quality system.
* Work closely with manufacturing facility in order to ensure an appropriate feed of materials into the process.
* To ensure that materials are received within a timely manner.
* To ensure the buying process is effective and that “best prices” are achieved.
* To ensure development of effective relationships with suppliers.
* To ensure selected suppliers deliver quality product.
* To ensure that suppliers are adequately scrutinised (along with quality department).
* To promote a policy of continuous improvement including supplier “cost down” initiatives, with an agreed year on year target reduction.
* Monitor costs against expected, quoted and previously paid values.
* Liaise with engineering department on technical matters and when alternative components require selection.
* To ensure effective stock levels are maintained and monitored.
* Ensure that appropriate supplier audits take place and that appropriate supplier relationships are built and maintained.
* Support the sales department with tender work.
* Ensure that appropriate authority levels are obtained for purchases.
* Support the technical department during the tender / bid process.
* Report KPI data as defined by KPI spreadsheet.
* Maintain correct and up to date supplier information on the MRP system
* Ensure that all direct reports comply with all Health & Safety procedures, policies and guidance in place on site.
Previous knowledge and experience required:
* Purchasing, inventory and distribution management skills
* previous experience from the electronics industry
* Knowledge of metal fabrications & extrusions
* Negotiation skills and ability communicate at all levels
* Knowledge of administrative procedures relating to purchase orders
* Knowledge of regulations concerning commercial transactions
* Ability to use principal IT programs and management software applications
* Analytical skills
