Cisco Network Engineer – Contract
JOB PURPOSE:
We are looking for an experienced Cisco Network Engineer to implement a project to extend and enhance our core IT voice and data networks to facilitate the new offices in the UK and USA.
Initially working with the IT team to understand the current single-office network configuration and then designing and implementing a new, best-practice, scalable, multi-office solution to the business. You will document each stage of the work as preparation of a handover package for the in-house technical team to maintain.
The project has an aggressive timescale, requiring both new locations to be operational within a 3 month timeframe.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Analyse the existing network infrastructure and create a new, best-practice LAN/WAN design for the business for review and approval by the IT Manager and Head of E-Commerce and Technology.
Create an implementation plan to facilitate the migration to the new architecture with minimal impact on day-day business activities.
Work with the technical team and external partners to deliver to the required timescale.
Implement an appropriate LAN/WAN network monitoring and reporting system for the new infrastructure.
Implement best practice for the design and execution of the project.
Ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality.
Review the work completed with the project team and business owners on a regular basis to ensure that it meets the project objectives
Provide regular status reports for the IT Manager and Infrastructure Project Manager for incorporation into weekly management meetings.
Person Specification & Competencies:
Proven experience in the design and implementation of LAN/WAN infrastructure development projects, including post-installation monitoring and management.
Very independent experienced enough to bring best practice and with the drive to deliver the project to timely completion
CCNP qualified with substantial experience designing redundant infrastructure solutions.
Hands-on experience of Cisco IOS, router, Switches (Catalyst 3xxx, 6xxx & Nexus) and wireless devices.
IPSec VPN, EIGRP/OSPF experience.
Security-focussed with experience of firewall configuration from various vendors.
Ability to deliver under pressure and to tight timescales.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills – able to present updates to steering groups/managers
Strong co-ordination experience ability to manage internal/external resources, in different countries.
Self-motivated with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and manage changing priorities.
