We have a unique opportunity within our Maritime Services division as a Technical Author.
Based in Portsmouth Naval Dockyard, you will be part of a team producing maintenance documentation to be utilised aboard our client’s vessels. You will be able to produce the documentation to a high-level specification within an agreed budget and timescale. This is an opportunity to be involved in state of the art maritime projects, providing an essential customer service in producing the maintenance documentation that is used on a daily basis by ships’ crews.
As the Technical Author (Maintenance Management Systems) your main responsibilities will involve:
Utilise existing BAE Systems applications for the extraction of current build data and ensuring future design changes are captured and maintenance tasks are produced and updated accordingly.
Provide support for changes to ships as required by contractual requirements, by way of managing and using a Request for Change database as directed.
Liaison between BAE Systems departments and key stakeholders in order to achieve objectives and deliverables.
Assist in Bid preparation as required.
Assist in the development of team members/colleagues to ensure best practice, skills and knowledge are identified and shared across the business.
As the Technical Author (Maintenance Management Systems) your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Desirably good overall knowledge in a defined engineering mechanical or electrical discipline to enable effective interpretation of drawings, Original Manufacturers handbooks or other technical source documentation to achieve extraction of information for assembly into written maintenance procedures.
Competent and confident in using software packages such as Adobe FrameMaker or Microsoft Word
Desirably, understands or has the ability to use and populate typical manual or Computerised Maintenance Systems (CMMS) as required.
Desirably, able to assist in the compilation and review of user guides, procedures, policies and processes as detailed on the Business Management System (BMS) as directed.
What we’re looking for in you
The successful candidate for this role will have practical engineering experience, desirably within a maritime environment – however we welcome individuals experienced in other industries – and will be looking at moving into a completely new and different challenge. You will have an interest in developing your engineering skills and you will be energised by working in this analytical role, you will be given full training and development in order to be successful in the role.
