Overview:
Our client, based in a convenient location in Crawley, is a leading organisation in the medical sector. They are looking for a Supplier Development Engineer in Medical Devices to join their culturally diverse team.
This individual will help manage a diverse supply base. The Supplier Development organization is a strategic lever in adding value from product creation through to product maintenance through to lifecycle services.
Working for the Supplier Development Manager this is an engineering and commercial role to achieve breakthrough improvements of manufacturing efficiency and quality in the global supply chain. As a proactive and self motivated manufacturing professional you will be able to work at key supplier sites to indentify and close gaps in manufacturing capability, introduce and promote lean principles, methodically plan and deliver improvement projects to given timescales.
Using DFM/A knowledge and experience you will influence product development engineers towards component designs that allow efficient and capable manufacturing processes. Using formal risk assessment tools you will assess new manufacturing and supply chain processes and implement mitigation action plans as required to meet business objective and targets.
Responsibilities / What youll do:
Establish, prioritise, coordinate and implement supplier development programs which will help meet the functions cost, quality and delivery precision targets and as per the departmental tactics plans
Carry out capability assessment of potential suppliers with respect to Elekta manufacturing strategy and product road map, report identified risks and make recommendations of actions.
Represent operations during product creation process and ensure design for manufacture and design for assembly best practives are implemented.
Review design documentation of new or modified products and accept on behalf of operations as fit for purpose and will allow capable manufacturing processes.
Provide technical support to supplier re-sourcing programs
Benchmark best practice and help implement and communicate that best practice where relevant into Elektas and our suppliers processes
Attain a high competence level in, and continually develop, personal skills in Value Engineering techniques, LEAN process techniques and problem solving techniques, and use in daily work. Be a centre of expertise to help develop others skills and knowledge in the department.
Develop facilitation skills in order to maximise identifying opportunities for reducing costs and increasing supplier performance
Keep abreast of and assess any implications to your programs of modularisation strategies, R&D roadmaps, Manufacturing strategies and Purchasing strategies.
Skills/Experience / Youll need to be:
A strong electro-mechanical engineering and manufacturing background is essential.
A minimum of HNC in an engineering discipline or equivalent
Demonstrable experience of successful regular use of LEAN tools and/or problem solving techniques and/or process improvement and/or value engineering
Proven track record of delivering supplier development objectives an advantage
Demonstrable experience of working with external suppliers based across the world
Demonstrable experience of working within product creation environment using DFM/A skills.
Demonstrable record of delivering stretching targets and successfully managing concurrent tasks
Demonstrable evidence of results oriented behaviour
Successful and demonstrable experience of facilitating improvement workshops or forums an advantage
Strong interpersonal communication and positive influencing skills, capable of working on own initiative whilst also being an effective team player
The key working relationships will be: Supplier Development, Purchasing, Manufacturing, R&D, Product Maintenance, other PSCs, the global supply base, Q&RA
