Assistant Manager

An Assistant Manager is responsible for contributing to the achievement of profitable top line in sales in their store through a focus on personal and team selling skills, sales management, leadership and team development.
A range of key performance indicators must be achieved by supporting the Store Manager in:
– Creation of a sales culture in store,
– Creating, motivating, and inspiring a strong team,
– Ensuring every customer receives excellent service, (love service, love Steffans)
– Control of costs, expenses, discount, payroll and shrinkage
– Consistent compliance with company instruction, polices and procedures.

An Assistant Manager must be able to fully deputise for a Store Manager during periods of absence.

Job Summary:
The Assistant Managers role is about supporting the store manager in maximising the sales and profit potential. Store performance is achieved by leading and managing the store team through delivering an outstanding selling culture and excellent store standards.

The Assistant Manager is the second in command in store and when the manager is not present, the assistant manager runs the store. They should have the ability to plan, adjust priorities and organise is essential. The ability to give direction, delegate, motivate, influence and inspire others to achieve results. You will need to act as a role model and support within coaching and developing the team.

Administration aspects will also be part of the Assistant Managers duties.
The jewellery business requires one to one selling skills, repairs knowledge, workbench skills and the ability to manage complicated stock management and control policies and procedures.

The Assistant Manager takes full responsibility for the store when the Store Manager is not present through holidays, meeting attendance, sickness etc.

Accountabilities:
– Creating a sales culture:
– Role model selling skills and achieve personal sale and service targets.
– Ensure daily briefs are carried out in absence of manager/when required.
– Monitor individual performance standards.
– Ensure reviews are followed through.
– Contribute to annual and short term store objectives.
– Support the Store Manager in creating and leading a sales driven and motivated team.
– Ensure effective and consistent sales floor management within the store in absence of the Store Manager and when required.
– Recognise and develop individuals through regular and constant reviews.
– Demonstrate the ability to determine daily, weekly and quarterly staffing requirements.
– Achieve selling and non-selling requirements.
– Plan and organise workload in absence of the Store Manager and when required to facilitate excellent customer service and cost efficiency.
– Resolve customer queries and complaints in absences of the Store Manager as and when required.
– Able to resolve problems and have the ability to think creatively
– Train team to reach their targets.
– Business Management:
– Be flexible in both approach and in terms of working hours in order to meet the needs of the business
– Ensure all promotions/product re dresses are executed to timelines in absence of the Store Manager or when required.
– Oversee all sales floor, office and stock management processes in absence of the Store Manager or when required.
– Analyse store performance and agree actions required with the Store Manager to address over and underperformance.
– Achieve and maintain appropriate knowledge of all products, services, processes and systems.
– Effectively use all company systems and communication channels.
– Cascade business and retail messages to team effectively in absence of the Store Manager or when required.
– Monitor and control all store costs in absence of the Store Manager/when required.
– Ensure all health and safety, legal and security requirements are met.
– Ensure Wesley and office are kept informed of any issues which may positively or negatively affect store performance in absence of the Store Manager/when required.
– Undertake store key holder/callout responsibilities.
– Attention to detail and able to see a job through to completion
– Report on sales figures and give trends
– Monitor attendance/sickness and lateness
– Sign off and authorise staff holidays ensuring adequate cover is maintained at all times
– Handling cash during the daily cashing up procedure
Ensure the windows are to a high standard

People Management:
– Identify personal development needs and agree plan to address.
– Identify potential future team members in local competitors/retailers and maintain team.
– Manage team performance through regular feedback, monthly reviews and appropriate recognition.
– Actively develop high potential sale associates to ensure store succession
– Ensure all polices and store operation standards and procedures are effectively communicated to the team, monitored and followed in a consistent manor.
– Regularly update team on store business, performance, new products and incentives.
– Maintain open lines of communication with team and encourage participation and ideas.

Reflecting the Steffans Values:
– Attend Managers Meeting when required
– Ensure all appropriate codes of conduct and company polices are observed across the store.
– Develop effective relationships with other department e.g. office, internet and suppliers.
– Support and develop other store colleagues as appropriate
-Contribute to deliver store openings and closures.

Knowledge and Skill Requirement:
– Previous Managerial experience essential – with proven track record
– Previous jewellery experience desirable
– Able to demonstrate leadership qualities
– Excellent time keeping is essential
– Knowledge of basic, recruitment, health and safety, trading standards and colleague engagement.
