The Role
The main role of the Assistant Engineer will be to support the Structures Team Leader in delivering structural design solutions in bridges, highway structures, coastal structures and marine structures to our clients.
Your role would see you involved with the analysis, detailed design, checking, assessment and strengthening of all types of highway and railway structures to current codes and standards. You will also have the opportunity to supervise graduate engineers and technicians as well as liaising directly with clients and producing written reports for them. You will also become involved with bid and tender preparation and will assist with project management on a range of exciting opportunities.
Location
This role will be based in our offices in North Tyneside. However, travelling may be required to other offices or Client offices.
Key Responsibilities
* Use your knowledge and skills in working together with the team and other disciplines in providing an integrated service to clients;
* Help seek innovative solutions in achieving best value in delivering our services;
* Help development of the team through and the delivery of projects and commissions, providing technical support;
* Manage projects, work package orders or discrete items of work where appropriate;
* Manage your time and potentially that of others.
Essential Experience/Skills
* MSc or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering and have a good understanding of structural principles;
* Progressing towards professional chartership;
* Experience in the analysis and design of structures, preferably relating to bridges including highway and/or railway bridge design and assessment;
* Have a good working knowledge of structural codes and standards, including Eurocodes;
* Basic understanding of foundation design and geotechnical engineering;
* Good communication skills both verbally and in writing;
* Proven ability to act as a valuable team player;
* Desire to learn and be keen to progress in your career;
* Ambition to succeed.

Remuneration Package
* 37.5 hours a week
* Annual leave – negotiable, but typically 20 days
