Role Title: Project Technician (Mechanical, Electrical or ICA Biased) in Programme Delivery

Working Hours: This role requires a commitment of 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Location: We have Project Technician opportunities which will be covering the Leeds, Bradford, York, or Sheffield areas. Where you live will be dependent on your base location of our Blackburn Meadows or Knostrop WWTW sites. The role is a flexible hybrid working arrangement with an expectation that some time will be spent visiting sites across the Yorkshire region and working from the operational sites from where your team(s) operate. Therefore, a full valid driving licence (no more than 6 points) is an essential requirement of this role.
Purpose of the role
We are looking for skilled and experienced Project Technicians who are either mechanical, electrical, or ICA biased to join our specialist project teams portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing small projects from conception to hand-over to the relevant Business Partner. Working as part of a team, your duties will include liaising with operators, performing feasibility studies, engineering design, project budget and cost control, project planning and reporting, site surveys and environmental impact assessments, design, procurement, contractor selection and tendering, site supervision, commissioning, and operator training.
Key accountabilities include developing and delivering cost-engineered solutions to business risks, coordinating the design, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations, managing the execution of the project ensuring alignment with all HSE and engineering standard requirements, checking the competency of contractors, ensuring financial management controls are applied throughout the project delivery process, and ensuring that asset information is added or updated on appropriate systems.

You must also drive excellent standards and performance in health and safety, risk management, and control of work to ensure compliance with YW Safety Policy. The ideal candidate should maintain an understanding of current best practice as developed within Yorkshire Water and from external best practice studies.
We are a business that operates 24/7, therefore once fully trained and assessed for independent working, you will be expected to participate in a formal out of hours standby rota.
Knowledge and Skills Required
Essential for all disciplines:
Electrical, ICA or mechanical based apprenticeship or Engineering degree or equivalent.
ONC/HNC/BTEC in Electrical, ICA or mechanical Engineering
Experience of working as a project technician or similar role, with knowledge of project management, methodologies and techniques
Understands the principles of control of works – Permits, POWRA, RAMS etc.
Has a broad experience with electrical, ICA and mechanical equipment and can use this experience to produce engineered solutions to resolve business risks and other issues.
Has a good understanding of the design and project delivery process including hazard identification, risk assessment and site supervision.
Respond/answer to a range of specific technical and non-technical detailed queries.
Understands and has experience of working to ATEX standards.
Highlight technical issues and supports and contributes to resolution.
Has experience in CDM, understands risk issues on site as well as construction risks.
Carry out site investigation.
Can demonstrate report writing and communication skills.
Is competent in the use of Word/Excel/PowerPoint etc.
Has experience in interrogating corporate systems, analysing and interpreting data.
Must be able to work effectively within a team as well as autonomously
Will attend essential role and discipline training.
Manage and prioritise workload whilst maintaining effective operational relationships.
Work effectively with equipment manufacturers to identify shortfalls and propose enhancements.
Has experience of delivering excellent customer service against challenging targets.
Essential discipline specific skills
For electrical biased role:
Qualifications and experience to facilitate YW Electrical Authorisation (LV) including permit issue.
City & Guilds certified for the latest edition BS 7671
Can demonstrate a good understanding of the various items of LV equipment commonly found on YW sites
Can diagnose issues with LV equipment commonly found on YW sites.
Understands AMTECH cable sizing software and can produce simple cable sizing calculations.
Has awareness of PLC, HMI, SCADA and telemetry configuration
Has an awareness of various instruments commonly found on YW sites
Has an awareness of YW telemetry systems
For ICA biased role:
Qualifications and experience to facilitate YW Electrical Authorisation (LV).
Can make suggestions to the use of PLC, HMI, SCADA, Telemetry and the various instruments commonly found on YW sites
Can make recommendations or diagnose issues with YW telemetry systems
For mechanical biased role:
Qualifications and experience to facilitate YW Mechanical authorisation
Has an awareness of safe process isolation procedure
Can demonstrate a basic understanding of water and wastewater equipment sizing and selection e.g., pumps, screens, blowers
CompEx trained (core competence)
Has an attended a Pump System awareness course
Has attended a Surge Analysis awareness course
Has attended a PED awareness course
Desirable for all disciplines:
CITB SMSTS trained with valid card
Experience of driving sustainable performance against challenging business targets.
Previous experience in a commercially orientated and / or regulated environment.
Has knowledge of the range of equipment within the Water Industry – including high pressure/temperature waste processing facilities, CHP and high voltage equipment
Desirable discipline specific skills.
For electrical biased role:
CompEx trained (modules Ex 01 to Ex 04)
For ICA biased role:
CompEx trained (modules Ex 01 to Ex 04)
For mechanical biased role:
CompEx trained (core competence)
Has an attended a Pump System awareness course
Has attended a Surge Analysis awareness course
Has attended a PED awareness course
