In a Nutshell…
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Divisional Head of Legal to join our team within Vistry Services, at our Bristol office. As our Divisional Head of Legal you will be responsible for leading engagement with internal and external legal providers for the provision of property legal services to the Southern division. Those legal services extend to the acquisition of land, the sale of land parcels to third party developers, Registered Providers and private rental entities and the sale of build complete dwellings to end users. You will work closely with the business units within the Southern division, the role includes engaging with both the internal legal team, Vistry’ s panel of external legal advisors and reporting to management on pertinent matters.

Previous experience of working in an in-house environment
Professional experience as in-house counsel and legal counsel or in a top tier law firm with international clients or other relevant private or public practice
Master of Laws or L.L.M.
BPP/BTC or equivalent

The role is broad, covering a wide range of commercial, real estate and transactional matters
Opportunity to innovate, solve problems and help decide on the future strategic delivery of legal services to stakeholders
Delivering legal and strategic advice on relevant matters to the business units
Drafting, negotiating and reviewing a wide variety of agreements
Relevant working experience with a strong house building or developer background
Excellent literacy, drafting and negotiation skills
Experience working in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial business environment
Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships around the business and supervise, mentor and manage other members of the legal team
The ability to express legal concepts in a clear and practical manner and advise senior management
Comfortable being hands-on, proactive and self-starting, not only in keeping up with developments in the law but also in taking initiative to learn and apply knowledge laterally to the relevant areas of the businesses
The confidence, skills and agility to question the status quo, take a risk-based approach to problems and spot opportunities to innovate
Qualified Solicitor, Chartered Legal Executive or Barrister (or other equivalent qualification/experience)
In-depth knowledge in conveyancing and housing laws gained in the UK market
Experience managing, supervising or mentoring more junior legal professionals
Balance technical excellence and legal risk management on the one hand, with a passion for the commercial side, and the ability to be helpful to the commercial team and move the business forward
Hands-on approach – willing to get stuck into a wide array of issues and documents, some novel/complex, others more routine.
