Translator / Project Manager

We are currently working with a leading global Oil & Gas company who are looking to recruit a German Translator for a Project management role for a part-time role on a 6 month interim contract.

This role will be for 2 days per week and will sit within the business translation unit, and will be responsible for translation project-management, translation, translation-checking and administrative tasks, in close collaboration with other team members in London and Europe. He/she will also co-operate with the German Communications team on external communications work.

Responsibilities include:
– Responsibility for managing bilingual translation projects (with English as source or Client language) from and into German, including producing cost estimates, advising and liaising with customers, placing work with external suppliers and supporting them with background material and glossaries, and monitoring suppliers performance.
– Producing short translations into German (supervised by a senior translator if necessary);
– Proofreading German texts;
– Advising colleagues and customers on the German language and context of German-speaking countries.
– Checking/quality control of written translations from and into German;
– Quality control of written translations from and into other languages, to the extent possible;
– Administrative duties, including keeping the work registers and filing.

It is expected that the proportion of time spent on translation and translation-checking is unlikely to exceed 40% on average, the rest of the time being spent on project management and some administration.

The ideal candidate will have strong written expression in German as well as strong English language skills.
This role requires a good knowledge of the economy, society and culture of German-speaking countries, experience of working as a translator would be an advantage as well as strong interpersonal skills, organisational ability and attention to detail.
