Trainee Toolsetter / Trainee Press Tool Setter

A Trainee Toolsetter / Trainee Press Tool Setter is required for a large engineering company based in the Smethwick area of the Black Country. Duties include training up to set and operate a range of hydraulic fine blanking presses from start to finish. No previous setting experience required, however candidates need to have a manufacturing background, with the ability to learn and attitude to progress quickly. Temp to Perm role working days initially, then moving to shifts once fully trained.

Full duties include –

Working under the direct supervision of 2 team leaders and the department supervisor
Training and guidance to set and operate on a range of hydraulic fine blanking presses
Tool changes and setting up of each job correctly
Loading and unloading of steel coils and feeds on the machines
Performing first off, in process and final quality checks on the products using measuring equipment
Working from job specification sheets or drawings as required.

Applicants do not need previous tool setting experience, however a background within manufacturing or production is essential, any experience operating presses is an advantage. Applicants MUST have a solid checkable work history with at least 1 reference. Must also have excellent communication, literacy and numeracy skills.

Training rate starts at £26,000 per year, once fully trained the position moves onto shifts which pays an extra 16% on mornings, 25% on afternoons.

Working hours are 8am – 5pm Mon to Thurs, 8am – 1pm on Fri.

Once on shifts it will rotate 6am – 2pm / 2pm – 10pm Mon to Fri.

Ideally candidates would need transport or live locally to Smethwick to get there for the early shifts.
