Trainee Field Sales Engineer (250jc) – Kent/Home Based – £29,900 + Benefits

My client, a UK company that represent a number of US based electronic component manufactures are now seeking a Trainee Field Sales Engineer to join them due to company growth.

Your role is to build relationships with the design and procurement departments of each UK based manufacturer of electronics equipment by providing them with technical and commercial product information, samples and support. Once the relationship is established the task is to find out what projects they are working on and to find out what components they need. With the support of our principal manufacturers we then help them to select the right parts for their design and provide part numbers, drawings, pricing and availability information. Once these parts have been included on the equipment manufacturer’s bill of material the task is to work with their procurement department, our principal manufacturers and their distribution partners to deliver the most attractive price/delivery package.

A good understanding of electronic hardware to component level is required, however we do not deal with software or programmable devices. Our speciality is passive components, quartz crystal frequency control, RF interconnect, displays and switches. Our market place is aerospace, avionics, defence, hazardous environments, industrial and medical, wherever high reliability components are required to maintain the performance of critical equipment.

For the right individual my client will provide sales training throughout their employment, however they would expect the individual to have strong existing interpersonal and communications skills at all levels.

This position will be suitable for individuals who are based anywhere in the UK, the more central the location the better. Working from home and only visiting the main office on a monthly basis (more frequently in the initial training period) the field sales engineer will travel to each customer location to make presentations and to find out about customer requirements, typically this would involve three days travelling per week.

They believe that this would suit an ex-military electronics engineer or technician experienced in working on military electronic systems to component level. The candidate would have to be self-starting and self-sufficient capable of working diligently without daily supervision. They would have to demonstrate the ability to make a presentation on a subject with which they are very familiar to a small audience, possibly similar to training a small group on the operation and maintenance of a specific piece of electronic equipment. Most important is patience and resilience, sales can be a long time coming with knock backs along the way, if we stay the course success will follow.

To start they are offering a generous salary of £35,880, with 30 days leave, generous car allowance, Health insurance, Pension, as well as full product and sales training.

As stated they are looking for someone who they can train and develop into a consultative type of sales specialist, but you will need a strong background in electronic components as this will be an integral part of your role.
