Tooling Project Engineer

Salary: £42,000 – £54,000 per year

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and driven individual to join our Rapid Tooling Projects team. You will work closely with our production facilities and sales force as well as dealing direct with clients, managing their individual projects.

The role: The tooling project engineer is the bridge between sales, production, customers and subcontract suppliers. He/she will provide technical advice, quotations, capacity and schedule information to assist customers in achieving their product requirements and deadlines. Topics will include all aspects of injection mould tool development, from quotations through to tooling approval, and then the management of repeat moulding work. Project management skills and the ability to manage various stakeholders are key skills.

The successful candidate will need excellent communication skills, computer literacy and a sound engineering background. Commercial awareness and an ability to keep a level head under pressure is also important. Within our existing team we have one Projects Department Manager and 4 Tooling Project Engineers.

The new employee is expected to have worked in project engineering for at least 5 years. It will be more than likely that his/her background will be manufacturing or engineering in a toolmaking or injection moulding / die-casting environment. Typical aspects of experience could include,

• DFM’s (tooling feasibilty), tool design and construction,
• Mouldflow,
• Plastic processing,
• Tool maturation through to approval.
• Knowledge of quality systems, APQP, PPAP, and TS16949 would be of benefit.
• Experience of working with 3D cad data and the ability to read 2D drawings with competence, and an understanding of GD&T would be beneficial.

The role, although primarily office-based, will also involve external visits to other group companies and customers (including international travel).

The standard hours of work are 8 am to 4.30 pm, Monday to Friday with an hour for lunch. This equates to a 37½-hour week. Additional hours are expected from time to time to fulfil project requirements.

• Manufacturing or engineering background as above
• Solid knowledge of injection moulding, toolmaking and/or die-casting
• Excellent computer literacy
• Good team worker
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent timekeeping and reliability
• Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
