Bench Joiner / Workshop Manager – bespoke joinery – Wolverhampton
An excellent opportunity is available for a directly employed Bench Joiner / Workshop Manager.
The successful candidate must have a pro-active hands on approach to undertake carpentry and joinery and be happy to take responsibility.
You will help the Company to promote safe and best practice and reinforce our strong emphasis on safety and quality.
The Bench Joiner / Workshop Manager will be a confident leader with a proven track record in management. You will possess the knowledge and experience to ensure compliance to workshop safety.
We have acquired the existing workshop of a previous joinery company and have a vacancy for someone to take the reins in this new venture. The role will be split between management and working in the shop. As requirements, production and staff increase the role will develop. Currently the production team will comprise of you, another very experienced bench joiner and an experienced joinery assistant.
POSITION IN THE ORGANISATION
Reports to: Senior Contracts Manager
Responsible for: All Operatives and Visitors
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Bench Joiner / Workshop Manager will be responsible for and will be expected to carry out the following:

* All aspects of Health & Safety. Our consultants and Senior Contracts Manager will carry out audits in addition to your inspections.
* Promoting best practice in health and safety for all personnel in the workshop and encouraging a “Don’t Walk By” policy.
* Ensure RAMS are understood and signed prior to each operation. Does the method match the RAMS?
* Making sure all operatives and workshop visitors are wearing correct PPE
* Day to day supervision and management of the workshop, coordinated with the Senior Contracts Manager
* Managing the programme
* Any variations must be reported to the Companies Quantity Surveyor to ensure instruction is provided.
* Be proactive to ensure materials are received in good time to avoid production waiting. (Again material orders by the office)
* Use the most cost efficient methods and control costs

Able to read drawings and provide take off for ordering
EXPERIENCE
* Minimum of 10 years joinery shop experience including management, ideally with good experience of bar, counters and cubicles. (Most of our work is bespoke).
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
* SSSTS Certification
* First Aid at Work Certification
* BTEC / NVQ 4 / City & Guilds ideally in Carpentry or similar
Desired Qualifications
* SMSTS Certification
* PASMA Certification
* IPAF Certification
* Fork Lift Truck Operator Certification
* Banksman Certification
* Fire Warden
* CSCS Card
* Full UK Driving Licence
Salary will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the candidate, guided at circa £18.6 – £23.4per hour based on direct employment.
