Our client is a leading UK waste management company. A vacancy currently exists for a Technical Waste Assessor to work at the company’s hazardous waste transfer station in Kent.

The main purpose of the role is to ensure that all incoming and outgoing waste is correctly classified and that an auditable trail of records is maintained according to site procedures. You will also assist with pricing of incoming loads and identify appropriate and cost-effective disposal routes and costs as well as ensuring that all records associated with pre-acceptance and acceptance are accurate and up to date.

Key Accountabilities:

• Apply pre-acceptance procedures according to WM3 to technically assess waste enquiries. Ensure sufficient information is supplied, including samples where required.
• Ensure incoming loads/enquiries are priced in a timely fashion and liaise with potential disposal sites regarding their charges.
• Ensure all information required for quoting, transport & acceptance is logged on the Salesforce system.
• Understand site processing capabilities to enable routing of waste.
• Ensure compliance of all waste quotes with site permits.
• Ensure pre-acceptance information is complete and available at time of acceptance, including plant & route.
• Work with site manager & site supervisor to plan bookings for incoming loads.
• Assist with scheduling & booking of outgoing loads, ensuring documentation has been generated and completed correctly.
• Liaise closely with internal Sales, Technical and Operational functions to ensure smooth and efficient operation.
• Advise on transport, labelling & consignment note requirements.
• Review completed waste acceptance documentation to ensure routes and costs have been allocated correctly.
• Inform internal sales team of non-conformances and communicate reasons for surcharges or rejections.
• Act as key point of contact for internal sales team in providing advice on waste treatment & disposal options.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Degree in chemistry or related subject.
• Excellent organisation and communication skills.
• Knowledge of WM3 and ability to apply it to classify waste.
• Understanding of ADR regulations to classify waste for transport.
• Confident in the use of IT systems and able to utilise bespoke company IT programs.
• Working knowledge of the operation of a Waste Treatment Processing Plant.
• Good working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
