Technical Manager

Salary: £72,000 – £78,000 per year

Our client, a privately owned chilled food manufacturer, is looking for a Technical Manager for their site based in the West Midlands. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of Food Safety throughout the company, embedding a food safety culture and building a team to drive continuous improvement.

Reporting to the General Manager, responsibilities for the role will include:

• Ensuring product quality, legality and food safety processes and controls meet all requirements

• Management and development of Hygiene / Technical team, including recruitment, performance monitoring and ensuring staff training needs are met
• Implementing, maintaining and reviewing a document controlled QMS system to BRC standards and customer codes of practice
• Managing site visits, BRC audits and other 3rd party audits as required
• The management and running of the HACCP system
• Food safety system risk assessments
• Investigating supplier issues and complaints and ensuring they are closed out to a satisfactory conclusion
• Ensuring that all audits are carried out and corrective actions put in place to ensure technical integrity and standards are maintained at all times
• Ensuring food safety testing is conducted to meet customer requirements, investigating and implementing corrective actions
• Facilitating close liaison between technical, manufacturing, and supply chain to minimise supply and quality issues and drive a QA and continuous improvement culture throughout the business

Essential / Desirable skills include:

• Experience in a Technical leadership role in a Chilled Food Manufacturing site
• Knowledge of BRC standards and food legislation
• Experience leading BRC and customer audits
• Experience leading and managing HACCP
• Competent computer skills
• Degree in Food Science related discipline or equivalent experience
• HACCP L3; Food Safety L3
• Good verbal and written communication
• Excellent organisational skills
• Team player and problem solver, able to work under pressure
• Strong manager with experience building a team

Working hours for the role are Monday to Friday, office hours with flexibility to meet the needs of the business. The salary is competitive.
