Technical Architect / Technical Lead
Full job description
Redwood Starke & Co
Salary: £66,000 – £78,000 per year
Overview
Our Client is a leading time-to-value provider of process management software. They pioneered the “appliance” approach by combining hardware and software in a single package that is quick to deploy and easy to support.
They are transitioning away from their existing LAMP (Perl) architecture to one based on JAVA that supports Web interfaces on multiple platforms and form factors. As such the development team is fundamental not only in achieving this, but also in supporting and modifying the existing platform while this is being done.
This is an opportunity to work with and grow a small team in a fast paced, dynamic environment and act as a key contributor in the design and development of our software product.
Job Role
This exciting position offers a unique chance to work with the latest technologies. The person taking on this role will be responsible for management, architecture and development of a new SOA based system, supporting BPM driven RIA applications, as well as for the maintenance and support of existing legacy code base in Perl.
The new architecture relies on web services so knowledge of traditional SOAP/XML and modern REST/JSON web services is essential. There will be a need to re-engineer existing Perl core system modules and migrate these to the new Java-based business layer. Knowledge of Perl is not essential, but would be beneficial, more important is a willingness to understand the architecture of the existing Perl codebase and be able to direct the efforts of existing Perl experts in the development team to achieve our goals.
The set of existing features and business logic have to be migrated, reviewed and improved during the re-designing phase. Strong knowledge of SQL/JPA/Hibernate is essential in order to write database (vendor) agnostic code. An element of 3rd line support for existing and new systems will be required.
Essential Skills: SOA, REST. JAVAEE6, RIA, MVC, SQL, LINUX and Perl.
