We are currently recruiting for an experienced Site Manager – Quarry to join and lead a section of our friendly operations team at Tarmac Bestwood Sand and Gravel Quarry, which is located close to Papplewick in Nottinghamshire.  This role is commutable from Nottingham, Mansfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Heanor, Derby, Alfreton, South Normanton, Ravenshead, Newark-on-Trent, Bingham, Kirkby in Ashfield, Matlock, Belper, Chesterfield, Worksop, Sheffield, Grantham, Loughborough and the surrounding areas.

Main Responsibilities

 

The Site Manager – Quarry will manage and be accountable for all quarrying operations within your section of the site. Safety and operational standards are the fundamentals of the role with cost control, people management, delivery to customer needs and performance improvement being key. Managing plant compliance with business policies and procedures and ensuring that legislative compliance is also a strong aspect of the role.

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities of the Site Manager – Quarry (not exhaustive):

Responsible for managing, coach and developing a highly skilled, fit for purpose and extremely motivated team to ensure business continuity and reduce business risk
You will lead change and continuous improvement initiatives, whilst maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports
Understand different methods of winning and extracting raw material
Knowledge of techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals and its applications within the industry, including feeding, crushing, screening, washing, separation, classification and beneficiation techniques
Understanding of the Quarry Regulations 1999 enabling a Reg 8 appointment (either C or D)
Responsible for all aspects of budgetary control for all quarrying operations
Maintaining and implementing existing and new, Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments and training your staff on the same
Managing and overseeing the safe operation of the plant and the planned preventative maintenance of all of the site’s equipment fixed and mobile with responsibility for your own safety and that of colleagues and business partners
Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practices
Issue of safety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational team
Manage proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff and keep an up-to-date training matrix
Collate and report on monthly performance KPI for your business unit for the Area Operations Manager and drive operational performance through KPI’s
Ensure appropriate Contractor and visitor inductions are carried out in line with company procedures
Key Stakeholders you will liaise within the responsibilities of this role:

Area Operations Manager – Site Maintenance Manager – Health & Safety team – Procurement and support teams – National Logistics team – Area Operations teams – Area Commercial teams – Area HR Manager – Industry Bodies – Customers
This role is a Days position with flexibility being key to this role with the expectation to be available to meet with our plant’s operational needs

You are required to hold a FULL UK manual car driving license with no more than 6 penalty points

The Ideal Candidate

 

To be successful in this role the ideal candidate for the position of Site Manager – Quarry you will have experience and knowledge of:

 

ESSENTIAL Experience and Qualifications

Diploma in Quarry Technology/FdSc Extractives Technology – desirable
SHE NVQ Level 4/QCF Level 6 – desirable
Highly experienced in Quarrying Operations
IOSH/NEBOSH would be advantageous
Full knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
Working knowledge of production processes, H&S and Environmental policies
Strong IT skills including a high level of competence with SAP and the Microsoft packages – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to multitask and manage change
