Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Systems Implementation Consultant to join us here at Genomics England!

Working closely with the Group Product Manager, this person will contribute to the operational and strategic direction of our research service. This person will use their technical breadth to influence and shape key decisions such as “build vs buy”.

Largely, they will focus on identifying opportunities at the data level and will collaborate with data specialists to help review resources and bring new ideas to fruition. They will also be responsible for assessing new cloud based products and analytics tooling. This may include supporting discussions with vendors and third party providers.

We are looking for someone who can unpack challenges with minimal or limited information. They will need to work across different teams and squads to find solutions and support implementations.

Ideally, this person will have a background in data engineering with an understanding of public cloud and the SDLC.

The role is a 1 year fixed term contract.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and guidance to the group product manager across areas of data, cloud, and software development
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and drive solutions that align with the strategic aims of the research environment
  • Provide expert guidance on architectural decisions, including build vs. buy considerations, leveraging technical prowess and industry knowledge
  • Support discussion with technology vendors and third party providers to assess tooling and products against our requirements
  • Utilise technical insight to influence and shape key decision regarding technology solutions and implementations

Requirements

  • A track record of supporting successful technical implementations or product builds (ideally, within a research or scientific environment)
  • Ability to navigate complex technical landscapes and make strategic decisions
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and drive consensus
  • Experience working with third party technology vendors
  • Ideally, a working knowledge of the following technologies: Cloud infrastructure (AWS), Serverless, ECS/ EC2, databases, application and monitoring services (DataDog), data management tools (Semarchy), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), APIs

Qualifications

Ideally, a Master’s degree or equivalent experience working in data, biostatistics, informatics or data analysis or engineering.

Genomics England operates a blended working model as we know our people appreciate the flexibility. We expect most people to come into the office 2 times each month as a minimum. However, this will vary according to role and will be agreed with your team leader. For some people this is 1 day a quarter, for others it is several days a week. There is no expectation that staff will return to the office full time unless they want to. The exception would be some of our roles that would require you to be on site full time e.g., lab teams, reception team.

Our teams and squads have, and will continue to, reflect on what works best for them to work together successfully and have the freedom to design working patterns to suit, beyond the minimum. Our office locations are Canary Wharf, Cambridge and Leeds.
