We are currently seeking an experienced Part-time Sustainability Officer to join a well-established, Building Materials business based in Coulsdon. As a Sustainability Officer you will help implement the high-quality 3P sustainability strategy (planet, procurement & people) and deliver on our client’s vision to be the sustainable supplier of choice for construction and fit-out contractors. You will work alongside other teams to execute on the aim to be net zero by 2030. You will have the skills to project manage the day-to-day execution of the company sustainability strategy, working on strong relationships with suppliers, third parties and customers.

This is a Part-time role (2 days a week) based in Coulson, with the opportunity to work from home 1 day a week.

Working Hours – 8:00am – 5:00pm

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Implementing and delivering on the companies corporate net zero programme and strategy
  • Actioning annual carbon negative assessment, including how to collate organisational scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions and offsetting the carbon emissions responsibly
  • Implementing and monitoring SBTIs (Scient based targets) alongside GHG Protocols
  • Managing and growing the third party net zero partner to ensure due diligence and execution of the strategy
  • Keeping up to date with climate change and environmental policies and aligning with the company strategy accordingly
  • Working with suppliers and within operations to reduce single use plastic packaging and other wasteful packaging
  • Working with sales, procurement and operations on initiatives and campaigns to reuse, recycle and circular economy products
  • Create and update customer carbon and sustainable reporting based on products and services, as well as logistics and operations
  • Grow the company eco sustainable product range, working alongside procurement, including products that are reduced plastic, recycled content, ethically sourced or through social enterprises
  • Maintain and monitor third party accreditation to ensure compliance, eg. Carbon Negative, Supply Chain Sustainability School, Sedex, Constructionline, Social Value.
  • Help with customer facing service and business development including preparing tenders, bids and proposal documents

Requirements

  • Suitably qualified in a related subject or appropriate industry experience (Ideally construction or building materials)
  • Relevant chartership or professional membership (e.g. CIBSE, IEMA, IEE, CEnv)
  • Good knowledge of current sustainability best practice, initiatives and key market drivers including carbon net zero, circular economy and social value
  • Have knowledge on sustainable procurement, modern slavery and ethical product sourcing practices
  • Understanding embodied or whole life carbon
  • Experience in capturing and measuring social value practices
  • Project management skills
  • Competent user of data and systems for data cleansing, management, analytics, and quality assurance
  • Excellent analytic and communication skills to interpret data and communicate it clearly to stakeholders
  • Attention to detail in service delivery, communications, and working with others
  • Flexible, enthusiastic and proactive approach to work with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
