This sustainability engineer role is to join a global engineering business and be part of their building services team who are playing a leading role in some of the world’s most challenging and exciting engineering projects. Work is across a plethora of sectors including Mission Critical, Aviation, Energy (eg Fission, Fusion, Large scale PV), Commercial Offices, Residential, Blue Light, Education, Transportation and Defence.

You will be part of a national network of 20 building physics experts and work with designers across the UK and internationally on projects that range from small net zero carbon housing developments to projects of significant and national scale.

This role will allow development of existing technical skills as well as providing potential to expand digital skills and project management. This practice is committed to developing ways of working using emerging Digital Technology and your work will be supported by research and innovation teams.

Responsibilities, Sustainability Engineer  

  • To undertake engineering Building Physics design and modelling on a range of projects.
  • Producing dynamic thermal models using IES software and develop the understanding of a buildings performance and help develop and drive solutions to improve the design with the full design team in a truly collaborative manner.
  • Producing PART L & EPC reports,TM54,Thermal Comfort Reports, daylight analysis, LZC reports, BREEAM modelling reports, etc.
  • Act as Project Leader on Building Physics Projects.
  • Contribute towards raising & promoting the level of technical excellence in a national and local practice.
  • To work alongside digital teams on in house modelling tools development, testing and roll out of these across the business.
  • The wider Building Physics team uses a plethora of design tools from a range of thermal and CFD packages and you would be encouraged to support work in these areas where you have experience (or develop your skills).
  • Help & assist with technical development of junior staff.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified – mechanical or building physics.
  • Have deep knowledge (or passion for developing this) of passive building design in terms of solutions and building form both from an environmental and energy efficiency perspective.
  • Proven experience within a similar role, ideally 2 or more years.
  • Experience in development of Energy strategies and Building Regulations Part L assessments.
  • Dynamic modelling experience for a range of subjects.
  • Low Carbon Energy Assessor is advantageous.
  • Finding solutions and options for digital transformation and the industry net zero carbon challenge.
