We are recruiting on behalf of Rolls-Royce Nuclear who currently has an exciting opportunity for Stress Engineers within the Primary Components Operation department to join our Submarines Business, which is the Technical Authority for all Royal Navy submarine nuclear steam raising plants.
In this role, you will develop and apply structural integrity assessment techniques to support the design, safety justification, in-service operation and manufacturing of current and future naval reactor plant Primary Components.

As a Stress Engineer, you will be primarily responsible for:
*Undertaking a broad range of mechanical assessments, including linear, non-linear and dynamic finite element analyses (2D, 3D, static and thermal).
*Making use of industry-wide tools and codes (such as fracture mechanics, fatigue, ASME codes and R6).
*Reporting and presenting the analysis results, which will often involve constructing an appropriate safety argument.
We recruit excellence at every level – from recent graduates to experienced professionals, including those with team management experience.
*A degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering (or a related discipline).
*Experience of finite element analysis and/or fracture mechanics methods applied to structural analysis.
*A strong background in one of the following areas would also be beneficial: fatigue assessment, probabilistic fracture mechanics, residual stress modelling, acoustic modelling, creep, impact, design-by-analysis, programming (for example Python or Fortran).
*Chartered status (or working towards) of a relevant professional institute would be an advantage.
This post is also suitable for direct entry Graduates that have an aspiration to work in an analytical / stress analysis discipline.
