Salary: £60,000 per year

Software Team Leader – C++ / ADA / Principle Software Engineer – London / Kingston upon Thames 

Our Defence client is hiring for a Software Team Lead to join their software team of 15. Working on high profile command systems for the military, this is an excellent role to work on high profile projects whilst leading software developers and being involved in project management, monthly reporting, project schedules and pushing high profile projects across the line to completion.

There is a big programme of software work, so you will come in and be leading a small team of software engineers to complete that work. However it is important you have a background in either C++ or ADA software engineering so can work with the developers to offer advise and guidance. You will have to learn the individual command and control system, but will eventually be involved in code reviews. However from day 1 you will be working with managing the workload, project estimates and pushing projects through to completion. The ideal candidate would be someone who has worked within C++ or ADA software development, understands that environment and who can push through the delivery of software to the schedules.

You will have the support of the Development Manager, and will have a rewarding time with mentoring developers and line management responsibility. This is a great team that does some incredible work and there could be a great career path ahead into Development Management across the business.

Technical Background of the Software Engineering Team you will be managing 

• Software Design (Waterfall and/or AGILE)
• Coding standards
• Programming: ADA, C++, C# (incl.Net framework)
• Scripting e.g. VB Script, PowerShell
• Software Integration & Testing
• Change Control and Configuration Management
• Windows Operating System and Networking knowledge
• Exposure to COTS Technologies e.g. VMWare

What we are looking for in you:

We are looking for an individual with good attention to detail. You will be a confident and effective communicator, who has experience with stakeholder management. You will have experience in supervising and coaching others. A defence background and knowledge of product software safety would be advantageous but not essential.

Due to the nature of the development work, this needs to be done onsite at Kingston upon Thames. Any candidates must also be a British National, with no dual nationality due to the sensitive nature of the work.

The site is easily commutable from Wembley, Slough, Epsom, Richmond, Surrey and London. The client is offering a wide salary banding between £60,000and £60,000 and is able to hire two individuals – Open to a candidate who is willing to take the first step into Team Leading, and a more experienced Team Leader.
