Software Engineer – Bet Transactions
Full job description
Sky Betting & Gaming
Salary: £66,000 – £78,000 per year
This job is currently remote working. When COVID-19 restrictions reduce, we may ask you to come to our Leeds HQ once or twice a week – although this is to be confirmed.
What you’ll do
Join one of the most exciting tech teams in Leeds in the Bet Transactions Domain, as a Software Engineer, working with the latest technologies using React/JS, Typescript, Java, Kafka, Kubernetes, GraphQL, PHP. Our products include the Sky Bet app’s Betslip and My Bets pages, the development of which has a high impact and value to our customer experience.
You will help to build industry-leading web and mobile applications, built on virtualised and cloud platforms. Working in teams that are evenly balanced with a mixture of specialists across front-end and back-end technologies: it’s your attitude and potential to learn and grow we’re looking for, not an oracle of any discipline or specific technology. We write a lot of React/JS, Node/JS, Typescript, Swift, Kotlin and Java; we use Docker and Kubernetes plenty, and we also do quite a bit in Kafka, PHP, Chef, Graphite, Akka, Redis, MySQL, MongoDB, GraphQL and a range of AWS services, depending on whichever product-owning team you’re part of. We update our technology stack regularly based on what suits the job the best.
Every engineer is passionate about their team and drives improvements in their discipline and the quality of their team’s systems. They share knowledge with others and are constantly learning and adapting their skills to push themselves and their team further: both in the tech that they use, and the way that they approach work, supporting all elements of the work of the team from analysis, design, development, test and operations regardless of title: team commitment is an essential part of our daily lives.
We are not building a monolithic Enterprise app – think micro-services and a lean approach with quick running tests and deployment.
How you’ll do it
We will help you grow to be an expert voice in your team and bring your specialisms to bear: whether that’s engineering elegant frontend experiences, building scalable backend services or all of the above. Find what makes you excited to get here on a morning and do more of it.
With your squad, get a deep understanding of your squad’s products and services so that you can play an active part in determining the future for them with your squad’s product manager.
Continuously learn, grow and improve with your team, for example by critical evaluation of your team’s software releases, and finding ways to incrementally make everything you do better and better.
