We have twoย Senior Vehicle Technician / Master Technicianย vacancies become available within our Transport Services Department. Working within a supportive team based at our workshop in Avonmouth, you will provide support to the Workshop Controller and mentor and develop the Motor Vehicle Technicians within the team. You will maintain and repair all fleet vehicles, including the latest vehicles with integrated emergency equipment fitted.
We strive ourselves to achieve very high standards and a first-time fix to ensure that vehicles are safe and kept on the road for the maximum time possible.
Main responsibilities of the role:
- Apply technical knowledge and skills to effectively service/repair all types of customersโ vehicles, plant and equipment.
- Working to the highest of standards to ensure officer safety whilst vehicles are driven and tested to extremes.
- Accurately record all labour and components on the job card and touchscreens and correctly label all parts.
- Diagnose and resolve installations as well as diagnosing/repairing Police equipment, high speed road testing with officers may be required.
- Keep updated of upcoming technical developments around vehicle maintenance and the introduction of electric and hybrid vehicles.
- Liaise with customers and ensure that complex technical information is provided in a way that the user understands.
- Provide support with complex repairs as well as coaching team members to ensure that they are kept up to date with new technology used.
- Maintain and repair the motorcycles for Avon and Somerset Police but full training can be provided.
- At times you will need to travel to different locations to maintain and repair vehicles as required.
Skills, experience and qualifications:
- You must hold a City and Guilds Advanced Technical Certificate in the Automotive Industry (Level 3) or NVQ Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Level 3) or BTEC in Motor Vehicle Engineering (Level 3) or equivalent.
- You will need to have good up-to-date knowledge of vehicles including electric vehicles and plant to be able to provide maintenance and repairs to a very high standard alongside very good diagnostic skills.
- You will need to hold or be willing to work towards an MOT testers licence, an Electric Vehicle certification, C1 and D1 Categories. If you do not currently hold these qualifications then fully funded training will be provided.
- A good understanding of automotive electrics is required for this role but full training will be provided.

Additional information:
The working hours will be split across a two week shift pattern:
- Week 1 โ Monday to Thursday working 07.00-15.00 and Friday 07.00-14.30
- Week 2 โ Monday to Thursday working 11.00-19.00 and Friday 11.30-19.00
We have two vacancies available for this role:
- 1 x Permanent role, 37 hours per week
- 1 x Fixed term role for 12 months, 37 hours per week
