Senior Software Architect / Senior Software Engineer – Enterprise Cloud storage services – Big Data environment

This is a brilliant opportunity for a talented Senior Software Architect / Senior Engineer to join an exciting, established start-up, building and supporting an enterprise cloud storage product. Working as a Senior Software Architect / Senior Engineer, you’ll get your hands on some cool technology in a real life Big Data environment.

Working alongside a team of highly ambitious technologists, you’ll play a key role in the on-going development using cutting-edge technologies to deliver an innovative cloud product.

In order to apply, you will be a talented Senior Software Architect / Senior Engineer with the desire to work on cutting-edge systems. In addition you’ll have previous experience of designing, architecting, developing & implementing large scale cloud storage services.

Key characteristics

Industry experience in a senior role with *practical*experience of:
– designing/architecting/developing/implementing; 1000+ users, 10PB data, 1TB/hr IO, 1Bn+ objects
– data storage distributed across multiple sites, e.g. Swift, Ceph
– large scale file systems, e.g. ZFS, Lustre, GPFS
– multi-tenant architectures with QoS and security management
– caching, tiering, data movement policies, e.g. iRODS, TSM
– integration of data processing pipelines/tools/services, e.g. encryption, indexing, data transformation
– metadata storage and management, e.g. Cassandra, MongoDB, PostgreSQL
– cold storage/archiving, e.g. LTO or enterprise data tape, MAID
– software development using technologies for building robust, scalable and distributed systems, e.g.
– object storage
– self healing file systems
– workflow engines and job scheduling
– high performance data movement
– message queues
– distributed databases inc. NoSQL
– enterprise linux
– Java

Other Skills:

– Performance engineering
– Bottleneck analysis
– Capacity planning
– TOGAF or similar architecture framework
– Software engineering environment, e.g. Git, Jenkins, JIRA, Puppet
