The Role

We are wishing to recruit an experienced and motivated research biologist with a background in molecular biology and disease physiology to join FibroFind Ltd to help coordinate our R&D endeavors.

FibroFind Ltd is a contract research organization dedicated to providing our clients with robust pre-clinical datasets that will confidently guide their decision making for development and progression of therapeutic candidates. The successful candidate will lead a programme of research focused on the discovery of molecules and pathways that promote fibrosis in chronically diseased human organs.

Key Accountabilities

* Deliver on a programme of experimental work aimed at the identification of new molecular targets for therapeutic manipulation of fibrosis in chronic disease of one or more vital organs.

* Provide leadership to an R&D laboratory including the design and execution of experiments using state-of-art technologies and with use of both in vitro and in vivo experimental systems.

* Facilitate training and support to junior scientists. Work as a key member of a collaborative research team alongside senior colleagues and bioinformaticians of FibroFind and where required with scientists external to the company in order to deliver high quality research data.

* Acquire, develop and innovate novel technologies, where required, to deliver on the aims of the research programme.

* Where required to provide ad hoc support for specific CRO activities of the company that are related to drug development using in vivo experimental models of chronic disease.

* Provide technical leadership for experimental work involving in vitro, biochemical and molecular approaches and be familiar with associated SOP’s, health, and safety documents eg. COSHH

* Write and communicate project updates within the organization and, where deemed important, for publication in scientific journals.

* To be responsible for collection, processing, analysis, presentation (writing, graph production, image production) and storage of experimental data in accurate, secure, detailed and up-to-date records of all work carried out to GLP standard.

* To facilitate general management and running of the laboratory including routine laboratory cleaning, maintenance, equipment upkeep and ordering of laboratory materials.

* Handling and processing of human tissue including collection from the hospital. To be responsible for the collection and preservation of all samples and materials relating to the research programme.

* Lead engagement in solving complex issues encountered during R&D development. To train new staff members in competent skills.

* Liaise and work with senior management to identify issues and ensure project delivery.

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

* Experience/Awareness of laboratory Health and Safety issues.

* Experience of managing and running research projects. Evidence of abilty to lead a research project and a research team.

* Evidence of ability to produce robust high quality research data (preferably with publication)

* An in depth understanding of cell/molecular biology and disease physiology. Knowledge of the biology of chronic disease and fibrosis.

* Good teamwork, excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Good computer skills, with the ability to graph and statistically analyse data. Proficient use of Prism.

* Excellent record-keeping, time management and organisational skills. Ability to optimise and apply new methods to advance projects

* Extensive experience of in vitro modelling and tissue/cell culture. Evidence of skills relating to in vivo disease modelling.

* RNA extraction from cells and tissue; quantitative PCR (SybrGreen and molecular probe based). ELISA & Protein isolation

* Demonstrable lab experience in a similar environment. Methodical approach to analysing data sets

* Willingness to work outside normal hours when necessary.

* Hep-B vaccinated (desired but can be arranged)

Qualifications

* PhD in relevant field with evidence of publication is essential
