Summary:
We are looking for 2 talented individuals to lead a major strategic change programme, focused on transforming the way the RSPB raises its income. You will be working closely with senior stakeholders and Management Board members on some of our most critical initiatives and opportunities.
These are excellent opportunities for individuals with a strong programme management and commercial background to make a real difference by supporting the RSPB to access and grow new sources of income, ensuring we can do even more to save nature.
Job Description
Nature is in Crisis, and here at the RSPB we are working across the UK and overseas to save it. As the UK’s largest nature conservation charity, with a workforce of over 14,000 employees and volunteers, we have an ambitious programme of work to transform our approach and deepen our impact.
We are looking for talented individuals to lead the development and delivery of major strategic initiatives focused on transforming the way we raise income, and how we deploy it across the organisation. We know there is significant opportunity for the RSPB to access new funding and commercial opportunities, enabling us to do even more for nature, and we know we’ll need to implement new ways of working to make that happen.
You will be working closely with senior stakeholders and Management Board members on some of our most critical commercial and fundraising initiatives and opportunities. The work will be fast paced, commercial, far reaching and innovative, covering many of our operations.
If you are an experienced programme or project manager, with a strong track record of delivering complex initiatives, managing risks, budgets and quality, and a desire to make a lasting difference for nature, we’d love to speak to you.

What are the roles about?
You’ll be responsible for the development, management and delivery of critical organisational programmes to transform the way the RSPB raises income, in order to sustain and deepen our ability to save nature.
Key activities will include:
- Supporting the Programme Executive in developing and promoting the programme and ensuring it is helping us to deliver our strategy.
- Putting in place the appropriate vision, objectives and governance structures to keep the programme on track and focused on outcomes.
- Ensuring that stakeholders are identified and kept fully engaged and informed as appropriate.
- Leading project and programme teams to collaborate effectively, and to deliver work to meet quality, budget and time objectives.
- Identifying, recording and managing risks and issues, putting in place appropriate contingency actions.
- Working across the Transformation function, as well as the wider organisation, to identify opportunities and dependencies in related pieces of work, for the benefit of the RSPB and our mission.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
- Ability to manage complex programmes.
- Ability to lead virtual teams, including without line management responsibility.
- Demonstrable ability to manage change within programmes.
- Excellent problem solving skills and ability to find creative solutions.
- An ability to persuade and influence a wide range of people, both internally and externally.
- Able to work under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Proven time management and organisational skills.
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
- Experience of leading commercial initiatives or projects.
- Relevant professional Project and/or Programme management qualifications.
Additional Information:
- There is a 12 month fixed term contract, Full-Time role for 37.5 hours per week. Whilst the role is offered full time we are open to applications from anyone able to work at least 30 hours per week.
- We are also offering a part time position minimum of 23 hours on a fixed term contract for 12 months.
- We reserve the right to make these roles permanent.
