Our client is a leading international supplier of electrical and electronic products, predominantly to the mining sector, in the UK, Europe and Asia. With the expertise of dedicated engineering and service teams, they design, manufacture and service a comprehensive range of high voltage electrical switchgear and control equipment. They are looking for a well established solidworks professional to take on a contract of a minimum of 6 months.

The position is responsible for…

Providing original design input for the design, product development and documentation of switchgear with the major objective to provide (in line with relevant documentation and standards) designs, equipment specification, bill of materials and plans.
Supervises the mechanical design team to maintain design consistency and finish the design to meet the project schedule.
Undertakes system improvement by implementing standardisation in the design team to achieve high quality designs within desired timeframe.
Participate in risk assessments, order reviews and design reviews to ensure the continual improvement of design quality.
Prepares works packages, inspection and test plans, weld procedures, undertakes system improvements, identifies design problems, ensures best utilisation of software, provides mechanical design advice.
Additionally the role will also co-ordinate design issues, quality, specification and legislative requirements.
Participate in and initiate the development of existing and new products, systems and standards and design review meetings.
Train and develop staff, including graduate engineers.

Skills Required …

Competent user of 3D Solidworks
Able to demonstrate a strong background in layouts, design, assembly and detailed drawings
Capable of working on a number of diverse projects
Degree qualified in a mechanical based discipline is essential min – 2:1
Experience in the design of both mechanical and electrical
Experience in designing switchgear
Ability to write detailed technical specifications for submission to clients
Experience in a mid – heavy engineering background is essential
