Salary: £66,000 per year

Our well established client is looking for a Senior Underwriter to join them. Working 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday, you will enjoy a host of employee benefits, joining a great team in fantastic offices (however homeworking may be initially required due to Covid), with salary of up to £66,000per annum DOE.

You will operate strictly within FCA principles and guidelines, you will review policy documents and make underwriting recommendations in line with company’s guidelines and rating process. Assist with development of underwriting processes and systems, applying experience to implement best practice. To ensure that queries are reviewed and followed up, ensuring excellent customer services is provided.

Responsibilities will include:

* Assess and gather background information on individual risks, being a referral point for junior members of QGU (quote generation unit) team on risks outside of their authority.

* To input data accurately and maintain records efficiently providing general administration and clerical support to QGU (including the HVS scheme)

* Review and Interrogate proposal forms and calculate possible risk

* Within underwriting guidelines and parameters, calculate individual’s / organisation’s insurance premium

* Review and decide clients’ suitability for insurance cover

* Check insured’s previous claim history, if any, and comment accordingly

* Liaise with surveyors regarding risk assessment

* Develop relationships with key stakeholders, liaising with sales team and brokers regarding individual risks

* Make any outgoing calls as required to relevant parties and liaise with any internal departments as deemed necessary.

* Gain knowledge by gathering information and / or reports from surveyors to make underwriting decisions.

* Specify any conditions to be imposed, as appropriate

* To ensure a high standard of service is offered to all clients, at all times

* To adhere to all QGU processes, ensuring applications are dealt with efficiently and relevant referrals are made to Line Manager when appropriate.

* To maintain professional competence by complying at all times with the Companies Training and Competency Procedures supervising junior members of QGU to ensure full compliance with FCA regulations in force.

* Supporting QGU Management Team with managerial duties including report writing, MI, development of presentations / materials for discussion with insurers as and when required.

* Correlate data for LVS Manager when required.

* Delivery of training for QGU team and wider company in regards LVS processes.

* Undertake any other duties as reasonably required.

Experience/ Skills Required
Experience of making underwriting recommendations and decisions in a similar insurance environment.
Ability to make accurate underwriting recommendations based on the information supplied, in line with company guidelines and rating system.
Good knowledge of FCA Principles and how they relate to the role
High level of technical skills in order to use of personal computers and related software applications
Numerical aptitude to perform simple accounting procedures
Demonstrable ability to use own initiative
Ability to develop and maintain accurate files and records
Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures
Planning, organising and co-ordinating skills
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Demonstrable ability to use own initiative
Ability to motivate self and influence others.
Flexible in personal approach.
Problem Solving experience
CII DIP Qualification (commitment to achieve this level will be considered)
