Senior audit accountant position within a well established accountancy practice that has been trading for 94 years. The company was recently bought out 4 years ago, and has undergone a modern makeover. The focus of the practice is always the success of its clients, with the core services designed to help clients meet those day to day requirements whilst their added value solutions assist with more strategic business decisions.

The firm are seeking a senior audit accountant, someone capable of general accounting and audit functions, with a split that suits you, ideally 50/50 or 60/40 in favour of the accounts side, however if you wanted to favour audit they are very open to that. As a key member of our accounting department, the Senior Audit Accountant will play a crucial role in managing financial transactions, preparing financial reports, and ensuring the accuracy of our financial records.

Senior audit accountant Position Overview

Leading and supporting audit engagement

Financial Reporting:

Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

Provide insights into financial performance, variances, and trends.

General Ledger Management:

Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

Post and review journal entries, ensuring proper documentation and supporting schedules.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

Assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts.

Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.

Month-End and Year-End Close:

Coordinate month-end and year-end close processes.

Ensure timely and accurate completion of financial activities.

Audit Support:

Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate the annual audit process.

Provide necessary documentation and explanations for audit inquiries.

Tax Compliance:

Assist in the preparation and filing of various tax returns.

Stay updated on changes in tax regulations that may impact the organization.

Process Improvement:

Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.

Streamline financial processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Risk Assessment:

Conduct risk assessments and identify key audit areas.

Develop and implement audit plans tailored to the specific needs of clients.

Financial Statement Analysis:

Analyse financial statements to assess accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.

Provide recommendations for process improvements and internal controls.

Client Communication:

Communicate with clients to discuss audit findings, recommendations, and address any inquiries.

Provide ongoing support and guidance to clients on financial matters.

Team Leadership:

Supervise and mentor junior audit staff, providing training and support.

Review the work of team members to ensure quality and adherence to audit standards.

Technical Expertise:

Stay abreast of changes in auditing standards, accounting principles, and regulations.

Apply deep technical knowledge to complex audit issues and transactions.

Quality Control:

Implement and oversee quality control processes to maintain the highest standards in audit services.

Conduct periodic reviews to ensure compliance with audit policies and procedures

Senior audit accountant Position Requirements

  • ACA or ACCA qualification
  • Accounting practice experience
  • Must be a UK citizen
