About the role
Title –Security Officer & Cleaner (Dual role)
Pay Rate – £11.35 per hour, rising again in April 2024
Location – Northampton
Shift Timings –42 hours per week, Cleaning, and security on Nights
You will be working in a well-known shopping centre, where you will be required to work in a dual role as both a security officer and cleaner – this role is 90% cleaning, and 10% security, however if you have a CCTV licence, you will be able to support in the control room as well. This role requires the right candidates to cover various cleaning duties across the shopping centre, as well as patrol and monitor the whole centre, ensuring the safety and security to both staff and visitors alike. As this role is based around the shopping centre in its entirety, rather than one specific store, we are looking for someone who is alert, vigilant, and able to deal with emergency situations in the correct manner. Please note these is an element of both indoor and outdoor patrols.

Your main responsibilities may include:
- The security officer must carry out cleaning duties.
- Make sure exits are clear of any Health and Safety risks, trip hazards, slip hazards, etc.
- Make sure they have the right equipment to carry out their duties.
- Assist Tenants when needed with thefts or MOP doing criminal damage.
- Arrive on site 10-15 minutes before shift starts and in the correct uniform.
- Lock and secure the building in 3 sections – 1) 20:00 2) 22:00 3) 00:00 and a full unlock at 05:00.
- Complete incident and accident reports at the earliest and to the best of their knowledge.
- Carry out cleaning duties within a reasonable time scale and to standards i.e. – Car Parks, Stairways, Auto Walks, Ramps, Lifts, Escalators, Floors, and Entrances.
- Report leaks and complete assessments and defect reports for damaged/broken objects around the site.
- Control Room duties include sending off DOR logs completing handover, radio, key checks, and a night report at the end of the night.
- Provide good customer service and assist members of the public when and if needed.
- Ensure all machines are cleaned out after use free of any damage and working correctly.
- Be professional when dealing with members of the Public, Tenants, and Contractors.
- To be appropriately dressed in company uniform
- To patrol the mall and car parks for any security risks, hazards, susp. Behaviour providing a constant deterrent. This is to include the external of the building, toilets and controlling staff areas.
- To carry out health and safety audits including checking of escalators, lifts, fire and life safety equipment, machines and concessions
- To carry out any reasonable requests by management including general manual handling tasks. Ie. Setting up event areas, gritting the car parks, clearing the roof gullies
- To provide exemplary customer service
- To secure any hazard from causing harm, further harm to persons accessing the building and report it in a timely manner
- To complete incident/accident reports in a timely manner
- To control access and egress routes to and from the building
- To take charge of lost property
- To assist tenants in stock loss, theft
- To protect the landlord’s property from fire, flood, theft, vandalism
- To ensure customers are adhering to centre policy and procedure.
- To operate a CCTV control room inc. assisting in the operation of the security/cleaning team
- To take charge of/control the use of centre keys including locking and unlocking the building.
- A security officer must have good knowledge of PACE and the criminal law act.
- To give a prompt response to missing persons especially lost children.
- To adhere to laid down assignment instructions and risk assessment.
- To be diligent and professional at all times when conducting duties
To succeed in this role, you will need the following:
- SIA Door supervisor – Non negotiable
- SIA CCTV Licence – preferred, not mandatory.
- First Aid preferred.
- Minimum 1 year experience.
- Education – GCSE level.
- Good level of spoken and written English.
- Smart appearance.
- Can do attitude.
- Willingness to learn.
