Remote / field-based role across the North West
We’re looking for a risk, health, safety and environment manager to join us and provide expert advice and guidance for all south east based Co-op projects. At Co-op, we’re proud to be the owners of one of the UK’s largest and most varied commercial property portfolios. As the UK’s biggest food community food retailer and national funeralcare leader we have a complex estate, present in every postal area in Britain. If you can bring us the retail and construction H&S experience we need, we can offer you the chance to build a career in a business that puts people at the heart of its strategy.
In this role, you’ll make sure that all third parties involved in managing our projects are aligned with health and safety legislation and the Co-op Property Code of Conduct. Projects could include new builds, refits, capital investment and facilities management across our stores, funeral homes and logistic depots. You’ll spend most of your time on the road carrying out on-site inspections and working with our supply chain, but you’ll work from home and occasionally touch base at our Manchester support centre. It’s a big role with lots to do. But it’s also a fantastic opportunity to build your profile and establish yourself as a trusted RHSE specialist with all kinds of people and leaders across the Co-op network.
What you’ll do
• provide professional and expert advice and guidance to supply chain, peers and senior management
• carry out construction site inspections on our retail and funeralcare sites
• investigate accidents, incidents or near misses, learning from them and advising on improvements
• assess and evaluate the supply chain
• build solid and collaborative relationships with lots of internal colleagues, contractors and enforcement bodies
• make sure appropriate risk management principles are embedded into all of our activities
• work on a range of tactical projects relating to RHSE
This role would suit people who have
• CMIOSH or GradIOSH, or working towards either of these
• a NEBOSH diploma, NCRQ, NVQ or an equivalent degree
• an in-depth knowledge of the CDM 2015 regulations
• solid experience inspecting and auditing construction sites (specific experience on retail projects would be advantageous, but not essential)
• experience in a similar role managing risk-based health, safety and environmental decisions
• excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to forge meaningful relationships with internal and external partners, working collaboratively to find solutions to problems
• great organisation and planning skills, with the ability to manage your own workload and work remotely and independently as well as part of a team
• a full driving licence
Why Co-op?
Here you’ll do work that matters. We’re a commercial organisation with a purpose beyond profit, you’ll have an opportunity to help us build a stronger Co-op and stronger communities. You’ll also get a package that includes:
• competitive salary
• coaching, training and support to help you develop
• pension with up to 10% employer contributions
• annual incentive scheme
• 28 days holiday (rising to 32 in line with service)
• discounts on Co-op products and services
Building an inclusive work environment
We’re actively building diverse teams and welcome applications from everyone. But simply having a diverse workforce is not enough. We aim to build an inclusive environment, where everyone can contribute their best work and develop to their full potential. We celebrate our differences and recognise the importance of teams reflecting the communities they serve.
We can make reasonable adjustments to our interview process according to your needs. And we offer a flexible working environment, so you can adjust your hours to suit your personal circumstances. You can find out more about Co-op people policies.
As part of your application you’ll need to complete an online assessment. It will take you around 12 minutes to complete this test.
