Propulsion Engineer – Surrey
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Space Propulsion Assembly and Test Engineer to support the current development of the company’s first Geostationary Telecoms spacecraft.
As a Propulsion Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, manufacture, testing, launch preparation and in-orbit commissioning of propulsion systems. This is a rare opportunity for an Engineer who relishes variety and the combination of practical contact with hardware alongside analytical design work.
In addition to delivering commercial programmes, exciting development activity underway includes design of novel green propulsion systems, high power resistojet designs, additive layer manufacturing (3D printing) and low cost electric propulsion system.
Key Tasks:
Detailed manufacturing planning including: orbital TIG welding qualification and x-ray inspection of welds. Mechanical assembly sequence of bipropellant propulsion systems.
Assembly and testing of the propulsion systems
Support component / system acceptance testing
Plan and carry out development testing (Flow characterisation, water-hammer, regulator testing)
Produce the required subsystem analysis & test reportsKnowledge, Skills and Experience:
Good Degree level in Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering or Qualified in welding & x-ray inspection
Organised and conscientious, high attention to detail
Experience in manufacture & test of MMH/MON bipropellant propulsion systems
Good all round knowledge of satellite propulsion systems, with an understanding of the functionality of thrusters, valves, regulators, etc.
A good understanding and hands-on experience of propulsion test GSE and test instrumentation, including set up / programming
An appreciation of Electronics and Electrical Engineering
Competent in Microsoft Office suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint [Essential]
