About the opportunity..

Poundland is recruiting for a Data Governance Devolper. You will be reporting directly to the Data Governance Manager; the primary purpose of this position is to assist the Data Governance Manager in the formation and execution of the data governance framework, policy and standards.

The role will work within a team of data analysts and developers to optimise the business’s data management, governance, accuracy, and availability.

Acting across functions, you will guide & work within projects to implement and improve all aspects of data quality, systems, business processes, analysis tools and techniques.

The key objectives are to support data activities to maintain accuracy, quality and best practices whilst maximising business benefits through improved data usage, control, governance, and risk management of these activities.

You will also liaise directly with stakeholders across the business to support and provide functional knowledge to appropriately embed the improved data process and quality.

The role is based at our Customer Support Centre (CSC) in Walsall, with the ability to work agile between ‘home’ and the CSC.

What will you be doing?

Develop and implement a data governance strategy:

Support the Data Governance Manager in implementing and maintaining a strategy and road map for data governance and compliance to include systems and processes
Implement and manage our records of processing activities, Data Mapping via the information Records Management Strategy. Ensure controls are in place for internal and external stakeholders/suppliers in all processing activities
To define solutions, innovations, systems, processes and plans for continual step-change and improvement
Develop data extraction and reporting to support the delivery of the data governance strategy:

Understand, integrate, transform and consolidate data from various data systems into structures for building analytics and reports
Build data lifecycles and document where and how data is mastered within the core E2E systems
Be able to build SQL batches to refresh data governance data and dashboards
Develop data management principles that lead to enhanced data integrity:

Develop control structures within the Poundland business environment to ensure the accuracy and quality of data through all upstream and downstream data channels
Coordinate the resolution of data integrity gaps by working with the business owners and IT
Ensure controls are in place over applications to ensure data integrity by performing data integrity gap analysis
Provide expert support to project activity:

Participate in projects that involve any of the upstream or downstream data flows and processes.
Ensure data projects are designed and executed to align with other systems and initiatives to deliver maximum value.
Providing data, information, evidence and analysis to inform decision-making, including but not limited to all stakeholders of company-wide data projects

  • Strong understanding of databases and data structures
  • Experience in extracting legacy data on large system transformations
  • SQL Server Integration Services
  • SQL Server Reporting Services
  • MS SQL*Server, ideally 2017 or above
  • Stored procedures

  • T-SQL
  • Visual Studio/SSDT
  • SSRS
  • SSIS
  • SSAS
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-sufficient and able to prioritise work with a high level of autonomy
  • Ability to compare technologies and make recommendations to senior members of the team.
