People Advisor – Employee Relations

Southern Housing have the opportunity for an experienced People Advisor who has a strong background in managing complex employee relations cases to support the People Business Partnering team deliver a credible service to the wider organisation.
As an Employee Relations Advisor, you will support on the delivery of efficient and effective People Management consistent with our internal process. You’ll also advise and support business area managers on both low level and complex employee relations issues including disciplinary (capability and conduct) grievance, appeals and flexible working requests. You will proactively manage sickness absence and colleague well-being in collaboration with business area managers and progress occupational health referrals and recommendations as required.
What you’ll be doing
- Advise and support managers within your designated areas of employee relations issues including disciplinary (capability and conduct), grievance, appeals, flexible working requests and advising on risk and supporting with formal investigations and hearings, escalating more complex queries to the People Business Partner.
- Advise on the application and interpretation of people policies and procedures to ensure accuracy and best practice, working closely with the other People Advisors to ensure consistency across the organisation.
- Proactively manage sickness absence and colleague wellbeing in collaboration with managers. Progress occupational health referrals and recommendations.
- Work collaboratively with the wider people team to ensure all transactional and administrative processes are carried out effectively, efficiently and to agreed timescales, and that an excellent people services provided to the business
- Support the People Business Partners and Head of People Partnering with organisational change and TUPE processes.
The location
This is a hybrid working role with the expectations of at least two days per week in one our offices. Within this role you’ll be based at one of our main offices in Farringdon (London), Croydon (London) or Sittingbourne (Kent) with travel to our Hub offices in London, Kent, Midlands and Isle of Wight.
We also ask that you are flexible to travel between locations when required for the role. This may include travelling to attend meetings outside of the normal working hours.
What you’ll have
- CIPD Level 5
- Up to date knowledge of UK employment legislation and the ability to apply this.
- Extensive experience of complex employee relation casework management
- Experience of working with line managers on people matters.
- Strong problem-solving skills and able to work well under pressure.
- A strong background in handling employee relations cases -supporting disciplinaries, grievances and appeals.
