Offshore Mechanical Engineer

Our client is currently looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with experience in the offshore oil and gas sector to undertake a role as a Specialist Inspector

This role is being recruited for in both Liverpool and Aberdeen offices

Job responsibilities

You will be a member of the Energy Division’s Mechanical Engineering team, concentrating on the integrity of offshore mechanical engineering systems, including: lifting operations, pressure systems, and rotating machinery. Integrity issues are considered throughout the whole life cycle of the plant including design, procurement, installation, operation, inspection, major repairs and modifications to plant, maintenance, and decommissioning. Using your specialist knowledge, you will:
Provide expert advice on health and safety matters associated with mechanical engineering systems and equipment to industry, other stakeholders and colleagues;
Carry out inspections of offshore oil and gas installations;
Investigate incidents, accidents and complaints alone or as part of a team;
Support enforcement action, including the preparing technical reports and expert evidence in legal proceedings;
Make technical contributions to the development of industry standards and guidance;
Assess safety cases, drawing conclusions as to their adequacy and acceptability in terms of the integrity of mechanical systems.

Essential criteria:
A degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering or closely related subject;
Corporate membership of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (or equivalent);
Substantial post graduate engineering experience in an operational environment within the offshore oil and gas industry. Alternatively, relevant experience in a similar major hazards industry may be considered;
Knowledge and understanding of the hazards associated with the safe design and operation of pressure systems, lifting equipment and rotating machinery, together with an understanding of the function and operation of such mechanical equipment, ideally in an offshore environment;
Knowledge and understanding of relevant engineering codes, standards and of integrity management systems;
You must be able to satisfy the UK offshore medical & survival training requirements and in line with your work, will be expected to carry out inspections and investigations at offshore installations;
You will hold a full driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK unless reasonable adjustments can be made in line with the Equality Act 2010.
