Mechanical Design Engineer Bolton Up to £38,000

Progressive Engineering and an Engineering Leader in Heavy Engineered Systems for Regulated Industries are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer for their Bolton Site, owing to succession planning and project workload for 2024-2025+.

Based in Bolton and reporting into the Mechanical Design Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the concept & detailed mechanical design of Heavy Engineered Projects (including the production of Customer GA drawings and DFM output, including Assembly Drawings, Fabrication Drawings/ Output, Bill of Materials & As-Built drawings).

In addition, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for:

• Production of concept and detailed design deliverables, in accordance with all relevant company standards and procedure(s), to meet customer/ project demand.
• Ensure all designs consider on-site or sub-contracted manufacturing capabilities.
• Design using iLogic templates for Standard and Bespoke products.
• 3D Modelling of bespoke products in Autodesk Inventor pending project demand; including all associated output in accordance with company procedure.
• Production of 2D General Arrangement drawings from 3D Models to company standard, for customer approval.
• Production of detail drawings for assembly, fabrication, and as-builts.
• Produce BOM’s for issue to production or implementation into MRP.
• Responsible for self-checking of GA’s and 3D models prior to release to Engineering Department checker(s).
• Maximise change capture within the department. Ensure all change is captured on each project.

Qualification & Experience Required for Mechanical Design Engineer role:

• HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar (Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering etc)
• Mechanical Design experience in heavy engineered / mechanical handling / static structures that include industrial sheet steel / steel fabrication / welded structures.
• Prior 3D Design experience (ideally using Autodesk 3D Inventor, 2D AutoCAD and Autodesk Vault)
• Ability to use Ansys FEA software is desirable.
• Ability to program templates using iLogic/ Visual Basic is desirable.
• Generation of hand and software-based calculations.
• Understanding of steel plate manufacturing principals and constraints, including laser cutting, weld limitations and press machinery.
• Ability to write reports and specifications.

For the successful Mechanical Design Engineer, a salary of up to £38,000 + Package (including Pension, 25 days holiday, Company Sickness Scheme, Life Assurance & Medicash Scheme) is on offer and this Mechanical Design Engineer role is commutable from Bolton, Preston, Manchester, Wigan, Leigh, Bury, Blackburn, Chorley, Darwen, Ramsbottom, Atherton, Standish, Prestwich, Farnworth, Middleton, Heywood, Horwich & Westhoughton, Rawtenstall and Bamber Bridge.

In addition, this client also works a condensed working week Monday to Thursday.
