Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary: £48,000 – £57,600 per year

We have an excellent opportunity for a mechanical design Engineer to join a World Leading manufacturer of off-highway and construction and agricultural machines.

You will design, validate and release components and systems, including the frame, boom, hydraulics and enclosures as part of a complete machine design.

You will join a small, experienced and dedicated team, designing brand new off-highway machines for an established, and stable, machine manufacturer. This position is an excellent opportunity for your further development, where you will be a key member of the project team, and part of the group’s succession plans.

Ideally, you will be a degree qualified Engineer, with relevant design experience and a good understanding of off-highway vehicle design, or similar heavy duty plant, machinery or equipment.

About You:

will be self-motivated, enthusiastic and positive. You will have responsibility for, and take ownership of, the designs you create and release.

Reporting to the Technical Project Lead, you will be responsible for concepting, designing and releasing to production a range of systems and components using Siemens NX. You must be literate, numerate and articulate, have good problem solving skills and be able to work both on your own, and in a team.

You will have the interpersonal skills to work with other functions and production facilities, including Assembly, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Logistics and Service across Europe. You will meet and work with suppliers on component specification and selection, checking the design meets both customer and legislative requirements.

Key Skills:

Experience with the design of off-highway equipment greatly preferred.

Competent with 3D CAD, able to produce and critique 2D drawings. Siemens NX preferred.

Demonstrate creativity and innovation in the design of mobile construction/agricultural equipment.

Capable of working from an open engineering brief, as well as assembly models.

Experienced in the design and manufacturing limitations of sheet metal work and welded fabrications.

Able to interpret standards related to off highway mobile machinery, and apply them to your work.

Able to lead small design and development projects, working to a budget and timing plan.

Able to complete full change note documentation, from concept design to release.

Awareness of cost implications for full component life cycle.

Suggest ways of continuous improvement.

Actively promotes cost reduction and quality improvement activities.

Contributes to the design, build and operation of test rigs, test equipment etc. to validate designs.

Has a positive impact and influence on colleagues both in and outside of your area of responsibility.

Capable of presenting to small groups of people, both formally and informally.

Able to positively represent the group, eg: to both suppliers and customers.

Able to work as part of a Global group interacting with teams at other sites across Europe.
