Mainframe Developer

Capita customer management are looking for mainframe developers to work in Leeds on a contract basis.

The key duties of the role include:
*To identify, develop and maintain IT solutions to support business objectives
*To ensure development is carried out to the department policy, procedures and technical/process standards.
*Develop against agreed tasks, to the timescales estimated.
*The applicant must be able to demonstrate that they are self-motivated and can work well with other members of their team, as well as on their own.
*Communicate effectively with other areas of the division across multiple locations
*Supports a programme to reduce technical debt (through quality coding and defect resolution for outstanding defects)

Accountabilities & Activities of the role include:

*Follows CCM (Capita Customer Management) engineering practices to assist the delivery of successful technical projects within CCM.
-Escalates blockers to the Oracle Technical Lead or Project Manager when necessary
-Undertakes iterative developments of the deployable solution
-Provides accurate estimates of work
-Develops to agreed milestones and delivers in accordance to a set of targets
-Participates in quality assurance to ensure products are fit for purpose
-Tests own output prior to independent testing
-Sees that testing and review activities are part of ‘Done’
*Maintains a high technical standard personally, to enable leading by example. Actively participate in project tasks, following own standards.
*Provides accurate and detailed documentation to support IT solutions that have been developed.
*Ensures the high quality (in terms of automated testing, integration testing, security, performance and overall quality) of software applications produced by the department
Provides 1st and 2nd line support for products and services as necessary.

Essential Experience / Skills required

Skills:
* CICS
* COBOL
* JCL
* Natural
* ADABAS
* Unix Scripting

Knowledge:
*Proven experience developing software observing good practices
*Good database knowledge skills
*Excellent Problem solving
*Willingness to take ownership of problems
*Expected to work in a structured manner and appreciate the value of QA processes and configuration management.
*A good understanding of general source control practices (structures, versioning, branching, tagging, merging)

Qualifications:
*Education to degree level (or higher) in relevant discipline or equivalent
*Proven IT experience in a commercial environment
*Knowledge of all areas of the development lifecycle

* Agile Methodologies
* Test Driven Development (TDD)

Knowledge:
*Unit / System testing
*Exposure to iterative/agile development methodologies (SCRUM, XP, DSDM, RUP etc.)
*Exposure to high performing, low latency or large volume data systems.

Qualifications:
*Professional qualification or certification with a relevant vendor
